From what I'm hearing about the controller here, it must be the same kind being used in LRV's (HBLR, Newark City Subway, The Tide, etc). It basically looks like a little paint roller.

Perhaps it's deemed more ergonomically correct, because you don't have the central shaft in between your fingers? IIRC; didn't they test something lie this on a R160 set last year? I caught a glimpse of it, but then forgot all about it.

yep, pretty much like what they use on WMATA stock down in DC.
