ttcsubwayfan Posted April 30, 2016 Share #6351 Posted April 30, 2016 They are MUCH cleaner than the R32s and there is no awkward wind coming out of the rubber gasket so yes they are better. Sure, you say that now... but the R32s have been in service a lot longer.
Javier Posted April 30, 2016 Share #6352 Posted April 30, 2016 And this is NYC so the R188's will be dirtier in less then 4 months lmao
Around the Horn Posted May 1, 2016 Share #6353 Posted May 1, 2016 A railfan saying the NTT RFW is better than the view on the R32s? There's a handhold next to it on the NTT's so that a plus too... Why is the view disoriented on the NTT's anyway? They use multi-plain glass.Simple physics. Light waves diffuse when traveling between multiple surfaces...

Q113 LTD Posted May 1, 2016 Share #6355 Posted May 1, 2016 No I mean why does the MTA do it I guess the MTA don't want passengers see what the train operator is doing.
RollOver Posted May 1, 2016 Share #6356 Posted May 1, 2016 (edited) A railfan saying the NTT RFW is better than the view on the R32s? That's a first. The poor RFW view is the main reason a lot of railfans seem to dislike the NTT in the first place To me, the view on the older cars is better as you can see every little detail right in of the train... which is not noticeable on the NTT cause the view is so distorted. Yeah. Even the R62/62As, you can see a clear view of the front window, despite them having full-width cabs. The NTTs and the R44/46s, however, the view is quite blurry. Can you believe Around the Horn? There's a handhold next to it on the NTT's so that a plus too... Still disagree with you, but at the end, each to their own. RTS9000 Posted May 1, 2016 Share #6357 Posted May 1, 2016 No I mean why does the MTA do it For full-width cabs. Yeah. Even the R62/62As, you can see a clear view of the front window, despite them having full-width cabs. The NTTs and the R44/46s, however, the view is quite blurry. Can you believe Around the Horn? There is a plastic covering over the window on the door to the cab - perhaps this is why. Or the windows are just really thick, which is why the light diffuses more as it travels through the window.
Around the Horn Posted May 1, 2016 Share #6358 Posted May 1, 2016 Yeah. Even the R62/62As, you can see a clear view of the front window, despite them having full-width cabs. The NTTs and the R44/46s, however, the view is quite blurry. Can you believe Around the Horn? Still disagree with you, but at the end, each to their own. I can't stand the R46 windows, so I agree with you on that...

Light waves diffuse when traveling between multiple surfaces... I always held on to the Storm door handle when I looked out the RFW on the SMEE cars, at the first stop the T/O usually yanked on it to make sure its locked before going into the cab to charge up. Its funny you mentioned wind blowing on you at the RFW on SMEE cars, reminds me of riding a 32 On the QBL express back then and some weird black substance got sprayed on my hand while holding the storm door handle
JFK Depot Posted May 2, 2016 Share #6360 Posted May 2, 2016 I wonder if they would do a nostalgia ride for the R32s on QBL one last time.... It would nice to see 1 set give the E a final run before they are completely gone for good
Javier Posted May 2, 2016 Share #6361 Posted May 2, 2016 Well I think that the R32's are going to be added to the TOMM if I'm not mistaken.

Lance Posted May 4, 2016 Share #6364 Posted May 4, 2016 Brought over from the R179 thread I don't think that would be necessary It would be locked before anyone gets to post. Since it keeps coming up, let me make a clarification. While the primary purpose of this thread is to discuss the incoming R188 cars, since the movement of the R62A cars are directly related, discussion of their appearance on other lines is permitted. There's no need for different threads for the same subject.

jon2305 Posted May 17, 2016 Share #6369 Posted May 17, 2016 Correction my friend, I saw that set still on the earlier this evening. Scratch that, got 2200 mistaken with 2220 lol. If thats the case why does wetchester keep taking sets from 240th yard... I know about the fleet shortage but damn, Ive seen enough R62As on the to cover all that. Just adds more to the already shuffled/scrambled R62A car fleet. Might as well send the rest of the R62As lol.
onthe1train Posted May 17, 2016 Share #6370 Posted May 17, 2016 Some sets are coming back clean to 240th, so I'm guessing they're using the wash facility at Westchester. While they're queued up, I wouldn't be surprised if they use them for service.
MHV9218 Posted May 17, 2016 Share #6371 Posted May 17, 2016 Have any sets of entirely single R62As run recently? I can't imagine the MTA has run a set of all singles in decades.
