7811-21 is usually in service. There is a video of it testing for CBTC and it is one of the sets with the orange sticker (in fact, the only factory set with the orange sticker). 7471-7480 and 7860-7870 seem to be the main testers with some sets being taken out of service occasionally for additional testing.

Yeah. I saw it twice yesterday. It appeared to be testing in the AM (towards Manhattan, I was riding to Flushing) and again in the PM on a <7> run.

I can confirm the side diamond LED signs on one of the R188's. 7506-7510 have them installed. The set is alone in a 6 car set testing in the yard. It was pulling into the shop when I saw it. Got a quick video which will be uploaded soon. Couldn't see if it was activated but the regular signage was blank. I don't think this makes much sense considering how the trains already say "Flushing Exp" on the interior and exterior and how the announcements also say whether it's a local or express. It's a very small sign, much smaller than the 62A's sign because of the hight of the 188 sign being shorter than a 62A rollsign. Because of the diamond, the LED text box in between the diamond is significantly reduced in size (the regular text of the 188 sign has been covered altogether).

Sorry I didn't focus on the side display because I didn't see it at first but if you pause at the very beginning of the video, you can see it.

That's crazy because I saw 2066-70 and 2076-2080 in service yesterday. Those singles (1901, 1902 and 1926) are now with 2071-2075. 2081-2085 and 2091-2095 are still on the (7), at least for now.

What the...don't tell me they're going to do ANOTHER Pelham 123 movie and convert a R188 to a R62A...

This isn't a movie for one thing, and in Pelham 123 it was the other way around where they converted a 62A to a 142A. There is no reason to convert a 142A into a 62/A...

This may be a test of a complete sign replacement. The original 142A/188 converted car exterior signs are in pretty bad shape.

True I only saw the diamond LED part. I couldn't tell if the whole sign had been changed or if it was just that part. They seem to be testing it, so we'll see if the whole sign is changed or if they just put the diamond LED fixture over the number sign.

Wait a minute isn't that LIRR trackage or I am confusing it for Corona?

You are confusing it for Corona.

Would this be the right roster for the R62As (I copied this from a quote, hence the weird font/background)?

1651-1825 - Westchester    (6)

1826-1830 - 240th  (1)

1831-1840 - Westchester  (6)

1841-1900 - 240th    (1)

1901-1910 - Corona    (7)singles (except 1909, which is scrapped)

1911-1925 - Westchester    (6)

1926-1960 - Some at Livonia    (S) as 3/4-car sets, some at Corona    (7) (singles)

1961-2080 - Westchester    (6)

2081-2085 - Corona    (7) - will be transferred

2086-2090 - Westchester    (6)

2091-2095 - Corona    (7) - will be transferred

2096-2155 - Westchester    (6)

2156-2475 - 240th    (1)

That wasn't why they were joined into units. It was so that they could save parts, instead of having to maintain, say, 10 cabs (2 on each car), they only have to maintain two, on the end of each unit.

I don't know when this change happened, but I wanna say the early 2000s.

Anyway, what set number has this pilot LED pattern?

It's in my video... 7506-7928-7510 which has not seen service for a couple of weeks now and has been in the barn since.

Rumor has it from what I've read from SubChat is the last R188 conversion set with car 7936 should be leaving the Kawasaki plant this upcoming week.

Makes sense since 7571-7935-7580 is in Corona testing. 7561-7934-7570 should be in service soon.
