jon2305 Posted July 17, 2016 Share #6551 Posted July 17, 2016 Will there be a chance the has ever ran on the R62A's such as like the or trains has? The used to be equipped with R62As 9 car single units back in the day, until they were switched over to the in the 2000s. Also a few sets from the ran on the earlier this year during a weekend G.O.

Lance Posted July 18, 2016 Share #6557 Posted July 18, 2016 I know we like to blame Bloomberg for the placement of the 142s on the , and perhaps he did have something to do with it. However, from an operational standpoint, it makes more sense that the 142s were assigned to the instead of the . With the amount of service the provides as one of two east side express lines, that line sorely needed newer trains to meet the ever-increasing demand.

Yeah, but the IRT Seventh Avenue Line only has one NTT which is the train but the and are using R62/A's and they're old since it's made since the late 1980's and the R142's were made in the early 2000's. jon2305 Posted July 18, 2016 Share #6559 Posted July 18, 2016 Yeah, but the IRT Seventh Avenue Line only has one NTT which is the train but the and are using R62/A's and they're old since it's made since the late 1980's and the R142's were made in the early 2000's. It doesn't matter if the Seventh Avenue Line has only one line with NTTs, the R62/As are still in decent WORKING condition and got another decade or so for useful service life so they are NOT going anywhere anytime soon.

Sent from my iPod touch using NYC Transit Forums mobile app Remember, the was about to have R62A's and the was going to have some R62A's from the and had one set of R62 from the . But the continued with the R142's and the with one R62's and R62A's and the continues with the R62's. So the scheduled to replace the R62's in 2020 and the R62A's in 2023. For now, the train is the only NTT for Seventh Avenue.

Eric B Posted July 19, 2016 Share #6573 Posted July 19, 2016 (edited) Both Flushing and Astoria were built as IRT, and connected to the system via the Queensboro Bridge and Second Ave. el. The BMT then connected with it, but had to run IRT sized shuttles (8 Astoria, 9 Flushing) from Queensboro Plaza, while the IRT ran 7 to Flushing, its own original 8 to Astoria, and the el services. In 1949, it was rearranged, so that IRT picked up Flushing, and BMT picked up Astoria, which was then converted to what would become "B Div". Since the connection to the IRT was gone, when the NYCTA Control Center was created, both lines were connected to the B Div. map and radio dispatcher desk.
