Are there any R32's/R42's out on the (J) right now?

At least 4 trains of R-42s on J (no Z) yesterday AM.  Don't know afterward.  Look for yourself.

Many reports were to find transfers of R-160A-1s from ENY to 207 and R-32s from 207 to ENY last week.

For however this lasts, the general idea seems to revert the B Div fleet to status as a year ago.  Remember when that happened last time early 2019.

So, as for the R179s some have to understand the essentialy difference between whether a screw simply "exists" versus how deeply it must be inspected for sufficiently "fastened within."

As others revealed, 3878/79 has been out of service already long term.

3454/55 was sidelined and "supposed" to be processed but evidently was hastily brung back to the rails yesterday.

The other 16 cars (creating list of 20) were 3404/05, 3410/11, 3424/25, 3452/53, 3484/85, 3496/97, 3698/99, 3900/01.

None were back in  service as of yesterday's AM lists and would have been shocked to so noted.  Time will tell for the others but at least 12 of those were already being stripped this week.

So of the 234 surviving Phase I R32s, that means we have 208 in active revenue service (including the 4 work motor cars that were reactivated yesterday), 6 in work motor service, and 20 out of service (the 16 from last week, 3878/79, and 3786/87). Is this right?

Caution message: For those who are getting pics of the R42s, TA is getting cautious as one of the plates and rollsigns were stolen on one of the cars.

Some of these railfans are a bit too much. Some of them just don’t know how to act and now I can see why some T/O‘s, bus drivers and other MTA employees feel the way they do about them. There is nothing wrong with appreciating something but don’t act nuts and go to the lengths of committing crimes and such over the fact that you really love a particular train fleet.

They are vandals who happen to be interest in trains. These bad apples ruin things for everyone.

Nice list, but my understanding is the two work R-32 pairs (3494/95 and 3642/43) were part of a Movie Shoot, not passenger service.  Those 10 cars have been deprived of revenue service since 2010 and ONLY used on Work assignments.  The others are 3510/11, 3552/53, 3694/95.  They're a huge mess inside anyway like many work cars.  Don't expect anything like that to see anywhere soon.

Neither of these cars were used in passenger revenue service either (A) or (C) on January 8.

While on the topic, was anyone ever to find if 3370/71 actually still existed?

3370/71 went to scrap in 2013

What is the purpose of removing the builder plates? Its such a minor detail that I don't see a reason for them to take them off.

The MTA probably has plans to sell them. I believe the TA sold Redbird and rollsigns from retired R32 - 42 fleets in the past.

Weren’t the GE cars some random oddballs that broke down a lot?

Basically yes. They were a pilot group of the first R32s sent out for GOH and kept a few more original components than the MK cars.

Just jogged my memory of those things; yeah, they were definitely "non-standard".  One of three fleets that the agency was desperate to get rid of first.  The other two being CI-rebuild R42s (structural rot) and Phase II R32s (mechanical shitshows).
