A friend of mine can corroborate on this. A NIS R46 was on the C. It is sorta interesting that the MTA is reverting back on the 600 ft (8*75) train ban on the C.

If the R46s are going to the (C) then some of the R46s leaving Jamaica will need to go to Pitkin to fill in for the R32s, because there are only enough R46s there for the (A) and the Rockaway Park (S). But as far as I see it, you can't retire the R32s yet because you'll end up with a car-shortage again. The best you can do is move them to another line (the (A) line maybe, as one of the rush-hour put-ins that drop out at Dyckman St or 168 St during the AM and those that go to Rockaway Park in the PM (which drop out afterwards). This way, the R32s assigned to the (A) only make a total of one trip per day (half in the morning and half in the evening, similar to how the R32 did on the (B) when the Brighton Line was restricted to local-service only.

Just because a train is NIS on a certain route, doesn’t mean that the (C) will get the R46s.

First, according to the MTA documents, 1486 cars (1250 in five-car sets) are getting CBTC for QBL, leaving about 40 cars for CI, @Union Tpke has also stated this somewhere in this thread. CI is going to need every R46 that they get from Jamaica.

Second, I agree that some R32s should stay, but as a reserve fleet, mainly to be used during rush hours. If they get rid of them, they’ll probably make the fleet requirements really tight. Honestly by the end of this month, we should know the fate of the R32s, 122 cars is still a considerable amount of cars in-service.

At this point let’s just see what happens.

While out getting my final rides I ran into that same NIS 46, had a chat with the conductor who then explained the r46 are definitely making a comeback to the C.

Changes are coming to the (A) and (C) lines very soon, may even be tomorrow.

The R32s are on very borrowed time.

It's going to be a sad, sad day when the last RFW is gone from NYCTA service.

Those 40 cars at Coney Island (left over Siemens) will be sent elsewhere. The same way they did with the 50 R142A’s Westchester Yard was clinging to.

Me Personally if they gonna send them anywhere other than Jamaica I'll send them to pitkin for the (A) and send more R46's to CI....

Or the other way around - send the R179s to CI

Wow, only six more Alstom R160s (trains) at Coney Island?

It's going to be interested how the remaining R160s at Coney Island will be shuffled (if at all) considering that the majority of the (Q) will be suspended. Last time the (Q) was running shuttle service south of Kings Highway, an R68A made an appearance.

It would pose the perfect opportunity to swap all the parked R160Bs to the (N) for the weekend (to sideline the R46s) and the R68As to the (Q) + R46s to the (B). And for those who are FANS of this swap, see more Alstom propulsion R160Bs go to Jamaica

(A) - 7 R32 consists during the rush; 6 R179, and assorted R46 and 1 R68 [PM only] fill out remaining trains.

(C) -  9 R179 & 9 R46 during the AM, 9 R179 & 8 R46 during the PM

they don't really seem to trust the R179s on the (A) yet. Only 6/13 train sets in service, yet the (C) has 9 out of 11 train sets running

No more R32s on the (C)? The (C) line now only uses R46 and R179 trains?

seems like the R32s are now on the (A) for the rush hour put-ins that only make 1/2 a trip (northbound AM and southbound PM)

Of the 13 ten-car trains, only 9 are accepted at this point in time, so it is reasonable to only have 6 assigned for service at any given time.

Weren't R46's banned from the (C) directly from supervision?

Irrelevant considering this is the new assignment.

I'm assuming the 32s will be assigned to the Rock Park specials..? If not I have a feeling those 32s would be running off peak and weekends like they always have been. If they wanted to retire the 32s before the 211's arrive, they had no choice but to run R46s on the (C) again.

There would still be a need for the R32s because the reason the R179 contract was made primarily for 8-car units was because the R32s and R42s were running on routes that use 8-cars (480 foot trains) as opposed to 600 foot cars (like the R44s which were retired prematurely due to structural integrity issues).

okay so today there were about 6-7 R32 sets in (C) service. cant believe that MTA actually decided to change their mind about the 46s being banned on the (C) and im glad the 46s are going back to the (C). its a bit sad that today is probably gonna be the last of the 32s on the (C), but ive had my time with them and im satisfied. the day the 32s retire i will be filled with a bit of emotion as these are the last RFW cars and the main subway cars i have grown up with from when i was baby until now going on 16 years of age.

additionally, i caught one R32 set on the (A) during the PM heading to lefferts but there could have been more out IINM.

personally i dont understand why the MTA is trying to get rid of cars before the 211s are even on property. yes they will retire at some point but we dont even have any 211s on property atm.

also, the total number of active R32s in service is now up from 122 to 128 (138 counting refuse/work trains). 3468-3445, 3446-47, 3818-19 are still in service as of today, i saw that set on the (C) like a few others did.

MTA is really confusing. First they want strict non-75 foot 8 car trains on the (C), then they want R46's on the (C), then they ban them from the (C), and then bring them back again. Why not just use the R32's and make them into a 10 car set and call it a day? This uncoupling and coupling of the R32 units is a waste.

They want R32’s off the (C) ? I’m not even sure if I actually buy that at all. They will probably continue to throw them on the (C) until they officially retire. The R179s are not stable yet so anything can happen between now and the arrival of the R211’s.
