There were four R46 trains on the (G) just now passing thru Metropolitan Av. Looks like the R68s are leaving the (G) to make the 8-car units for the (Q) or the (N).

Coney Island doesn’t have anymore R160 Alstom sets anymore. Just R160B Siemens sets left. 25 sets. Mainly on the (Q) but you’ll see some on the (N) and (W)

Jumping the gun a little bit. 8728-8732 is still on the (Q) today.

one set of R68s is out and about on the (Q) today. i believe that the (Q) will get more R68s (and some R46s) soon now that all alstom sets are now at jamaica.

yea Coney Island doesn't have any alstom sets no more. they are barely holding onto their siemens R160s for now given the rate this swap is occurring.

it appears that the 46s will be off the (F) and (R) by the end of march or april at the current rate this swap is occurring.

What’s the current R160 roster?

Not yet. 2 10 car R160 trains are still on the Brighton/Astoria lines unless a R46 wants to do the swap during the midday this week or so on.

8728-32, 8743-7, 8758-62, 8768-72, 8778-82. 8793-7, 8833-7 (remainders) with 8843-8892, 8898-9012, 9018-9102  (siemens powered)

Jamaica has 8653-8727, 8733-42, 8748-57, 8763-7, 8773-7, 8783-92, 8798-8832. 8838-42, 9103-9942

Say what you want about the R46s, but I have mad respect for them because they got to be used on a lot of other lines before they retired. The R32s got to shine on the (J) and (Z) for a little while, but for the better part of the last decade, the R32s only ran on the (A) and (C). The same could be said about the R42s. Other than the (brownM) Shuttle, they've ran on the (J) and (Z) strictly for the last 10 years. The R46s have spread out over the system and still have a few years to go. On a day like today. You can have an R46 run on the (A) (F) (G) (N)(R)(Q)(W) and Rockaway Park (S) all at the same time. The R32s and R42s have been used on every line during their 50+ year careers, but during their final years of service (or really the entire 2010 decade) they have been relegated to one or two lines. I don't know which line will have the R46, but atleast you can say that the R46s have been around many lines, in the beginning and the end of their careers.

Other car types like the Redbirds, R62As, R68s are cars that started with a lot of lines and finished off with a lot of lines.

Back in 2009, the R32s were the same age as the R46s now. Yet, were on the (A)(B)(C)(E)(F)(R)(V). Remember they weren’t expected to be in-service past 2010, if it weren’t for the R44s. For the past decade, they’ve only had enough cars for a couple lines, since the R160’s retired about two-thirds of the fleet.

If memory serves correctly, the (V) did have R46s, R42s and R160s at this point before the brown M was orange.

when the (V) started running R160's, The R42's were gone from jamaica. It only ran R32's, R46's and a set or two of R160's.

No it didn't. The R160s on the (V) didn't start until the Spring 2010. The R42s from Jamaica Yard were already retired by that December of 2009.

If the (V) didnt have issues running SMEE's why was it a problem for the (M) to utilize them?

The (V) used 10 car units and the (M) can only run 8-car trains. There is no Metropolitan Avenue south destination sign and the C/R boards along 6 Av and Queens Blvd did not align properly for an R42. Although new C/R boards were made specially for the (M) along the two corridors in 2010

That explains the SMEE's but how come no R143 or R179?
