The r46s at coney should go onto the (B) and (G) and the r68s from those lines should go to the (N)(Q) and (W) until the 211s arrive.

Here’s why the MTA doesn’t want R46s on the (B)...

They don’t run those 46’s on the (B) because it goes to 145 and the Bronx. Let’s say the set needs some maintenance, concourse yard is the closest location for maintenance but the yard doesn’t have spare parts for R46’s. Gotta Also keep in mind that labor costs go up if Concourse takes on another car class. Having R32’s on the (J) in exchange for more R179’s on the (C) solves nothing because you’ll still end up with a spare cars shortage and higher maintenance costs.

Don’t be surprised if you also see 9928-9932/9938-9942 on the (N) today

That, and 9923-7, 9933-7 were at QBL but on weekends, they tend to be testing on the Express tracks while the (E) and (F) ran local before today.

Looks like even though normal service will be restored in the B div tomorrow the R32s will NOT be coming back. Unless 207th has been secretly prepping them and they will run on the (A) or (C) tomorrow... which I doubt.

Looks like the R32s are finally done!!!! With the city reopening in July perhaps they can finally have the last run and start scrapping these cars.

Then how can they run full service? Isn't there not enough cars?

Looking at the total amount of 5-car R160s, the (N)(W) both share 9 10-car trains total. 1200 cars = 120 10-car R160s is the total being that the (F) line uses the most amount followed by the (R) and the (E) .

During the rush or on weekends, there will usually be 1-2 R160s from the (N)(W) pool at C.I as spares but almost all of them are out.

They'll probably just reduce the spare factor, it's not like they haven't done that before.

Yep, they did this when the R30 cars were retired with nothing replacing them until the R143s came along. NYCT made it work. This isn't the deferred maintenance era and the fairly young NTT's make up a good portion of the fleet. Things will be fine with the R32s retired.

They had a great run, 55+ years is an excellent run for a railcar.

Probably right, except the R46s were doing badly even when there was no ridership. Never say never with the 32s given how rough the MDBF has been. If they didn't think there was a chance of using them, they wouldn't be keeping them prepped.

I think that now with CBTC becoming active on QB, the run-times on the (E)(F) (M) and (R) lines need to be calculated to see if the number of cars needed for service can be changed. The run-time on the (L) following CBTC was reduced by about 4 minutes from Rockaway Pkwy to 8 Av (can someone please check this). The only difference is that since this is partial CBTC Activation, the service frequency increases possible are limited to what the non-Queens Blvd Portions of the lines can handle (example: Broadway can only accommodate 9 (R) trains per hour to not interfere with the 14 (N)(W) trains scheduled, while the Williamsburg Bridge can only handle 12 (M) trains plus the 12 (J)(Z) trains scheduled).

some of these comments are very dumb, look at the R46's can barely run right on the (N)(Q). they need more spares, and they didn't run 100% full service without the R32's. the R32's were pulled once covid was at it's peak and service was reduced.

comments like this is why we had fleet shortages each decade since the 1980's. Also full service don't start tomorrow, only Full (F) service. Full (C) service is between June and July.

the idiots don't realize that the all of the R32's are not retired. they are in storage with 40% of the fleet retired with the remaining in storage. They still inspect a handful of cars.

Running with a low spare factor with the pandemic still going on is f**king retarded. because once a train goes OOS, there's no back up fleet meaning more crowded trains which we don't need until everyone gets their shots.

very very dumb take, the R30's weren't needed no more because they cut (C) service to the rockaways and the R44 GOH was wrapping up in 93. after 90% of the R30 fleet was retired, The Metrocard was introduced and ridership exploded. thankfully the manhattan bridge work on the broadway side was still going on, that's why they made it work. if the bridge was full y open back then, the R30's would have been forced to stay until the early 2000's.

I agree. There's absolutely no way they can run full service without bringing the R32's back.

If car equipment doesn't want to work on them, then have the R32's run only during the rush on the (A) and send additional R46's to the (C). At least this way the door Motors won't fail as frequently and 207th St can keep an eye on them. They should only run them on the Rockaway Park (A) trips.

Or they could sent the R32's to the Rockaway Park Shuttle and leave the R46's solely for the (A).
