I've noticed a pattern over the last couple of weeks.

Every time a new R179 set enters service on the (J), an R160 from the (C) goes back to ENY.

This should bump out another 10-18 R32s to 207 St soon.

However, once 3150-3157 enter service on the (J), that's when they'll send another set of R160s, which will be enough to displace the last R32s at ENY to the (A)

I hope they power wash and do some heavy maintenance/inspections to those R160s when they get back to ENY. 207 St pretty much ran those R160s to the ground to minimize use of other fleets on the (C)

Many of the B division lines have roughly the same frequency of service throughout the week except rush hours, so they spend very little time in the shop, combined with the fleet shortage, contributing to the poor state of the subway cars, and may explain the low MDBFs.

How beneficial is the SMS work to an R32? Should SMS work happen to those R42s as well?

A lot of R42’s have had SMS already. You can look towards the top of the roof. If it’s nice and shiny, it prob got SMS’d, also if the sides look clean and shiny, that’s also a dead giveaway.

Oh, right. Sorry, I haven't taken or seen R42s in a couple of months.

It would be lovely to see their durable stainless steel car bodies repainted as well. The entire car body inside and out. But then again, SMS isn't really all about making trains look so "sweet" looking anyway lol.

Its not possible to "paint" stainless steel exterior bodies, only to clean off the gunk and grime.  Interior paint only requires maintenance, depending on how much abuse is applied.

And on September 21 there were four more at 207:  3664/3665 and 3772/3773.

That would leave 36 at ENY and 186 at 207.

Another list (same date) has eight R-32's out for SMS:  3550/3551, 3664/3665, 3672/3673 and 3708/3709.

All are attributed (assigned) to 207 Street while in the shop.  Let's see where they pop up when finished.

As photo'd above.  Nice catch!

October 7 R-32 update at ENY:  36 cars (3430/3431, 3454/3455, 3476/3477, 3578/3579, 3628/3669, 3650/3767, 3670/3671, 3698/3699, 3716/3717, 3736/3737, 3774/3775, 3778/3779, 3780/3781, 3856/3857, 3870/3871, 3886/3887, 3912/3913, 3938/3939).

Just 2 R-32 Trains in (J) & (Z) service on October 8.

186 R-32's assigned to 207.  Used on (A) (10-car) and (C) (8-car).

Stainless Steel doesn't need to be painted. If they were carbon steel, like the Redbirds, then I'd agree.
