Eastman346 Posted June 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 16, 2007 Has the LIRR replaced all the old electric cars with the new M-7's?
PATCOman Posted June 17, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2007 not yet. I think the M3s are going to last for a little while.
Harry Posted June 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 20, 2007 When I was at Atlantic Terminal yesterday there were nothing but M-7's. I couldn't spot amy M-3's. Maybe they were out or on another branch.
Canarsie143 Posted July 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2007 Whether you believe it or not, there are still some M-1's running on and off. If you're lucky, you can catch 'em on the Babylon line.
Harry Posted July 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted July 3, 2007 I think I saw a couple in the distance by the Jamaica station this past weekend.
Canarsie143 Posted July 3, 2007 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2007 I think I saw a couple in the distance by the Jamaica station this past weekend. I remember when I was on a mixed consist a few months ago, M-1's and M-3's. Talk about door problems, the CR uses the door light en route to Lynbrook. R68 Subway Car Posted July 4, 2007 Share #7 Posted July 4, 2007 Whether you believe it or not, there are still some M-1's running on and off. If you're lucky, you can catch 'em on the Babylon line. All M1s have been retired from revenue service as of 2007.01.08, and have been replaced with M7s. The M3 will get phased out starting in 2015. Pu3rToRoCk8947 Posted July 24, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 24, 2009 M-3's remind me of the M-1's in many ways, truly a classic commuter car.
Amtrak7 Posted July 24, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 24, 2009 There are 836 M7's and 170 M3's on revenue roster. Haven't seen many M3's lately.

AgedPolaris Posted July 24, 2009 Share #12 Posted July 24, 2009 As I've stated before, my window has a perfect view of the Far Rock branch, and I see M-3s on the regular (although not as prominent as M-7s) during weekdays. I do not believe they are in weekend service at all. Living here, even if you can't see them, you can hear them. M-3s have a nice low hum, and M-7s have more of a high-pitched sound when they take off. You still see plenty of M-3s on the Atlantic branch along Sunrise Hwy, and I've seen them going to Hempstead and Long Beach, too. They're around... just elusive. I don't particularly favor the M-7 or M-3, but because M-3s are kinda the rare breed, I love riding in them. I haven't been on one since March.
rmcconnell Posted July 24, 2009 Share #13 Posted July 24, 2009 If you want to see M3s, go to Jamaica station during rush hour. That's when most of them are out and about.
