NEW YORK (PIX11) – A new license plate appearing on some fleet vehicles belonging to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is not spelled correctly.

The reference is to the “Transporation” Authority. It’s missing a “t.” It is not an abbreviation of the MTA’s name. Although some have speculated “transportation” didn’t fit in the space on the plate.

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles says it was not an MTA error. The state is trying to figure out the problem that occurred between the designers and manufacturers.

The order called for 908 plates, according to the DMV. They are being replaced, although an exact number of replacements (or the cost) could not be given.

lol... You have to wonder who is responsible for oversight at the (MTA) ...

Thats true. Another thing is that as you look in the slideshow, you see examples of the same mistakes with typos in the subways. Incorrect service change posters in English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian etc...

What else..

Yeah,  remember the (F)(M)(L) screwup on MTA signs? lol.

Anyway, who knew the MTA was in the business of making surgical tape.....
