And now, a 256GB MicroSDXC card has finally been released. This time, it’s a SAMSUNG product which is shocking given that SAMSUNG has always been behind on capacity relative to competitors like SanDisk and Lexar. SanDisk’s recent introduction of a 200GB MicroSDXC card led many to think that 256GB would be a difficult target since it has been the first time an SD card was ever released with a capacity that’s not a power of 2 (4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, …).

Given that a MicroSDXC card occupies a volume roughly one-eighth of a regular SDXC card, 1TB and 2TB full-sized SDXC cards are assuredly just around the corner.

You can get a 256GB MicroSDXC card today for $249 (MSRP).
