Orion V 9441 Posted April 11, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2015 Almost two months ago, the TTC's last 7000 series Orion Vs were retired from regular service. The last two buses were 7013 ( Route 131 Nugget) and 7123 (routes 139 Finch-Don Mills and 53 Steeles East). That was not the end of the 7000s though, as 7106 is loaned to the city to serve as the primary Toronto Island Bus until the end of April, which is when its MTO sticker expires. This is a common practise at the TTC to loan the vehicle in the best condition from a retiring fleet to serve as the Island Bus, which will usually outlast the rest of the fleet by a few months. The bus only operates when the regular ferries are unable to do their routes. Today, the Ward's Island ferry was closed due to strong winds and because the boat, the Ongiara, was is for maintenance. As a replacement, ferries were operating from the downtown ferry docks to Hanlan's Point, with bus 7106 shuttling people to Ward's Island from there. Since the weather has got a lot better recently, it is becoming increasingly uncommon for ferry service to be suspended, and it is possible that today is the last day of service for the 7000 series in any capacity.
