The dilemma will come when I get a notice for T/O. What do I do if I already started the process for Conductor

That’s when you make a decision on what you going to do moving forward. But remember if you don’t pass probation in the C/R title before excepting the T/O title you can’t return to the previous position (i.e. C/R) if things don’t work out as a T/O.

@LIRRMedford, the other thing is that there's a lot more to learn and perfect in the T/O title. It's very unforgiving and a lot of people wash out of the training program.

It's probably a better bet to spend a few years as conductor and then promote to T/O.

Then, if you don't like T/O, or fail the program, you're back where you were and still a Transit employee.

As Matt said take this first if it's offered and then go the T/O route after you passed your probation.

I'm facing a dilemma as well. I wasn't expecting to start the process this year since the exams unit made it seem like we won't hear anything regarding this exam until next year and now we got our letters to start the initial process. I'm hoping that if I pass everything and get hired it won't be until next year after I graduate. I have to let one of my professors know that I have to miss class to take the oral assesment next month. I don't want to miss out on this opportunity since transit won't wait they'll be onto the next person, but I can't just drop out and pursue this job because of the finaocial aid I recieve and the contracts I've signed. I'll be in some deep sh** and I'll have 51 credits by the end of this semester anyway.

I'm sure after the oral exam you'll still have to wait until next year after the current exam expire in feb. 2018 so I'm sure you have time. MTA is just probably starting to get things started now so that they can jump straight into #6601. So I say continue to move forward with your day to day. I'm sure everything will work in your favor. Best of luck my ninja!

Hopefully it works out that way. If anything I'll do as you stated to the other poster and have my name reinstated. Thanks for your encouraging words and good luck to you aswell.

@Candorgreen, I haven't received a letter yet.

Maybe in today's mail, maybe in the next few weeks...

I'm eager to get started myself.

Transit works at their own pace.

I wouldn't be nervous.

Fundamentally they haven't even established the list yet, so they haven't even started hiring off of it.

They're starting the screening process.

Just keep track of the list numbers of people who've been hired and started training once the list is established.

If for any reason they've skipped your list number, which can happen, go in and politely point that out and request that they start the screening process with you.

I could br wrong but I don't think we have any basis to complain and request screening until we know our list number and how far they've hired off the list.

I too have received this letter for October 4th. My question is when will we find out our test results. I never kept track of my answers so I don't know how many were right or wrong, I am curious to know my score.

The only people who received letters so far seem to have had less than 4 wrong, also based on your early scheduled date of Oct 4th (only earlier I've seen is 2nd) you should be in good shape, maybe 1-2 wrong max.

We should get our scores by end of the year.

Just my observation though.

Should I be nervous if I haven't received a letter yet?

I lost my yellow "Candidate's Record of Answers" sheet, and I haven't received a letter either, therefore if you know your tentative score, then I would be worried if you did well...

From what I calculated I got a 90% on this..Currently in track dept.... Got hired July 17th...Don't know if I would switch to conductor...

I would stay until your probationary period is over, then take it from there. Keep in mind that if you switch, and you're unsuccessful, you might not be able to get your old job back...

You'll be taking a pay cut. Track workers make $33.1025 @ top pay in February 16, 2018. Conductors will make $31.6350 @ top pay.

Track workers can be trained into specialist titles and get paid $36.25.

Conductors have 3 promotional paths: Train Operator, Tower Operator, Asst Train Dispatcher.

This is only an abbreviated summary.
