For those of you who are looking to defer, don't do what I did.  I went in today to do the medical, with every intention of deferring to the next class.  I went to every counter they sent me to and asked what I needed to do, no one could give me an answer, all they would do is just give me a nasty look and rush me to do more paperwork.  Spent all day there again, and finished my medical.  When I went to hand in my stuff, I asked the lady at the counter, again, what do I need to do to defer.  She had no answer, and decided to finally ask someone who was in charge for conductors.

When that lady came in, she looked at my paperwork and asked why I bothered to do the pre-employment, and the medical, if I wasn't planning on starting on the 22nd.  -__-  I told her that I asked every single station I had visited, even the doctors who check you out, and no one could give me an answer, and just rushed me to do more paperwork.

Turns out, when you came in for pre-employment, all you had to do was just decline the offer, and be done with it.  You then would have to go to the DCAS building in manhattan and essentially put yourself back on the list for the conductors list.  If you happen to have finished medical like I did, it's good for 90 days.   She told me that I should come in, sometime in the first or second week of may to put myself back on the list and that I might still not be able to get on the next class rotation, but it's what I would have to do.

Good luck guys!

Damn this sucks since I already did my pre employment last week. At this point all I can do is hope they don't get up to my number for the June class (which they probably won't since i have about 300 people infront of me)

Did you find out how long it takes to have your name placed back on the list?

All they said was that I have to go and asked to be placed back on the list.  But, the way she sounded was real condescending, like I have to chance to ever get back on.

Hey guys, new here! I have a question. If I have a dwi that I got arrested 6 years ago and sentenced 5 years ago, would they still hire me?

mention it.

you will likely be placed on a medical hold for substance abuse though so make sure you don't drink ever again tbh. even socially.

For anybody who followed the 8094, how often do they call for preemployment? Monthly? Quaterly? Twice a year? When would the next batch of preemployment letters go out (assuming no hiring freeze).

Based off last years hiring frequency:

March: they had 200 vacancies

May: they had 200 vancancies again

August: they had 1,000 vacancies

(That’s all I remembered because fingers crossed it goes the same way for this year, I should be getting a call by around august lol)

Do you happen to know how long is the hold for? It was a misdemeanor NY the way

Do they do a second drug test after the pre-employment? I ask because I've already booked a vacation to Colorado for...the scenery, yeah.

They can do a second drug test on you if your original one is set to expire near or after your start date. It's not a definite thing since I wound up having to do two drug tests during my hire process.

I think there's a good chance. You should definitely forget about it, as it probably wont be for like 3-4 years if they do, but I think they will.

Mention it on the pre-employment but not on the medical questionaire. (Answer no to all those pertaining questions) If you can't be hired, they will tell you before they send you to medical.

I really hope you get it. Wish you the best. Keep taking as many exams as you can. I'm certain you'll get one.

Alright.

I got my medical hold released. Very quick. With no having to come back.

I won't tell the nature of the hold, but there are too many doctors in NYC to make your medical hold longer than a day.

So you just went to any doctor, not your PCP, and got cleared?

YUp.

I have insurance from my current job thank God.

Idk, but that alone encourages dishonesty on the part of the applicant.

That's why I'm not going into depth on the reasons of the medical hold.

And its fine that you don't. Theres no forum rule saying you have to :P. But I am going in for pre-employment tommorow and I know my diabetes will be an issue. Problem is I live in medford and thats where my PCP is lol, so I was seeing a lot of trips to brooklyn in my future

You need a leeter from your PCP stating your diabetes is under control.

And you will be forced to take a medical every 6 months.
