ErikNYC Posted August 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2015 Hello, I just received my pass a couple weeks ago. I would like to know are employees suppose to dip their pass when boarding the bus? One bus driver told me all I have to do is show it to him. However, to avoid any confusions in the future, I would like to be certain. I also read we can damage you ID by doing so. Thank you. +Young+ Posted August 10, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2015 From what I heard, you are supposed to dip it, however keep in mind that the MTA can always track down the time you dipped it and on what bus route. That's all I'm saying...

PATCOman Posted August 12, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 12, 2015 I'm a train operator and I never dip my pass on the bus, I just show it to him. If I dipped it, it will deface the pass.
roadpilot Posted August 12, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 12, 2015 Not true. I've dipped my pass many times it still works fine.
contor Posted August 12, 2015 Share #8 Posted August 12, 2015 Actually you are supposed to dip your pass!! As the TA puts in now it's NOT a "flash pass"anymore like the old one where you just "flashed" your pass. And if your pass doesn't work or gets damaged then you get it replaced. If by some chance there is upper management on the bus and you don't dip your pass and the bus operator doesn't say anything to you (like most don't, because you are a fellow employee) then he can/will get in trouble and there is also the possibility that you can get in trouble also, for not dipping your pass. I Run Trains Posted August 12, 2015 Share #9 Posted August 12, 2015 We came from the same class. They told us not to dip on the bus because it messes up the ID
contor Posted August 12, 2015 Share #10 Posted August 12, 2015 We came from the same class. They told us not to dip on the bus because it messes up the ID Well I hope you have the name of the person who told you that. Because the TA wants you to dip it. And if the driver asked you to dip it (to cover his a$$) then you need to do it. BTW did you know that sometimes binkys, don't dip there pass or pay the correct fare amount, to see if the driver will say something. And if the driver don't say that the fare is $2.75 then he can and/or will write the driver a violation.

contor Posted August 12, 2015 Share #14 Posted August 12, 2015 Kool! but theres was a few people in hi positions in 180 Livingston that said it as well! They said You can swipe on the train but Dipping the pass tends to mess u the card! Well never heard of that... But you do what you want. I've been using my pass for 20 plus years and I think I only had one problem trying to get on a train. Then when I had a chance I went and had a new pass issued. But if a BO asks you to dip your card, then just do it. Never know who's on the bus and the operator is just covering there butt. Just like any and every other worker would do,
East New York Posted August 14, 2015 Share #15 Posted August 14, 2015 Showing the Pass to Bus Operators is fine. The only time the TA wants everyone to swipe with no exceptions is at the train turnstiles. Even if there is Brass on the bus, they aren't going to say anything about showing it to the driver. After repeated daily dipping on the bus, it has been known to distort the strip over time.
