Fanning in Norway (Part 2 of 4): Fjords and NSB

Recommended Posts

My photos of trains of NSB (Norges Statsbaner) During my trip to Norway in June and July. Most of the photos were taken in the Sognefjord Region on the Flåm Line.

Local Trains on the Bergen Line from Bergen to Arna, Voss and Myrdal. All local trains are comprised of Class 69s.

Flåm Line from Myrdal to Flåm. The line is very touristy, and is Hauled by two El 18 Locomotives (one at each end of the train). It is also one of the steepest Standard Gauge railways in the world, with a maximum gradient of 5.5% (1:18). During the 20 km trip from Myrdal to Flåm, the line descends over 800 metres.

Map of the Flåm area. Anyone notice what is out of place on the map?

One photo of the fjords in the Area, Naeroyfjord. This is one of the narrowest Fjords in the area, and has been used as inspiration for many of the tv and film productions that take place in the area, most notably Vikings and Frozen.

Regional Trains on the Bergen Line from Bergen to Oslo. This trip takes 7 hours and is one of the most scenic train trips in Norway.

Finse station. This is the highest station on the Bergen Line, and is 1222 m above sea level. The town is only accessible by train and the Rallarvegen (navvies road), and is located next to the Hardangerjøkulen Glacier. This area was used to film the Hoth scenes in Star Wars Episode V.
