Inspiration for the upcoming ALP-45DM...:rolleyes::cool::P:P

These are E33 and E44 electric freight locomotives custom made for PRR. They could have used GG1, but at the time they needed all available GG1 for passenger service.

I always found the E33 / E44 interesting engines. In what year did ConRail receive them?

 

They inherited them directly from penn central/pennsylvania railroad. Penn sylvania railroad got them in the early 60's. The E33 wasn't custom for PRR, the E44 was. The E33 had less HP (4400 vs 3300), and was inherited from new haven RR when they were added into the merger i believe.
