Why was the C train cut back to Euclid Ave from Rockaway Park in 1992?

Common sense would conclude that if the (A)/(D) run and I'm putting the (A) as CPW Express the (D) is obviously the local.

The while CPW stretch from 145 to 59 St is roughly 10 minutes. All you're doing is cutting 10 minutes from the (A) and adding it to the (D)

There isn't anything wrong with running the (A) entirely local overnight since the CPW local tracks feed onto the 8th Avenue/Fulton Street local tracks and it's main purpose is to replace the (C) overnight anyway.

My point was if trains going local for 60 stops (which was the point of contention against the (C) doing it then we should complain just as loudly against against the (A) having to do it. It isn't a serious proposal, the idea is that trains make 60 stops all the time and we don't even blink. So, if sending the (C) to Rock Park will improve service then we can do it, there aren't any insurmountable obstacles to doing so.

But trains don't make 60 stops *all* the time, only during late nights. Doing it 24/7 is an entirely different animal.

60 is inaccurate as it was intended as hyperbole and NO train does 60 stops ALL the time, not even the (C) to Rock Park which would have 50. The overnight (A) has 57.

In fairness to me the (C) to Rock Park was and would be, if repeated, a Rush Hour extension so this would only need to be accomplished about 8hrs out of the day.

If you think 50 is high consider the (2)(F)(R) all have 45 or more stops.

Doesn't the (A) go there at rush hour?

I don't understand the logic of extending a train that's shorter and has longer headways than most lines, that far. I'm with the Lefferts extension, though. I think that's a no-brainer. I think people that work at the airport and casino need the extra service--or, normal service, for that matter. I think that's the majority of the ridership of the Airtrain, anyway. Ten to 15 minute headways during peak is ridiculous for any frequented subway station. I think the (A) should be split at Howard Beach. The Rockaways doesn't need more than 6 tph, right now, due to ridership. And what's with all this beef about the (C) being local, and people from Lefferts wanting a one-seat ride? It's a fast local. You're not really losing much time. I've heard more than one story of the (C) beating the (A) to spots. I've learned that, with the timers in the system, express over local is negligible if you not riding long distance; you don't save that much time.

Agreed. Currently, the midday & Saturday (A) runs up to 8 tph (7-8 minute headways). So that's about 4-5 tph (15 minute headways or so) on each of its 2 branches. I agree that Howard Beach could use service every 7-8 minute headways while Far Rockaway continues to get 15 minute headways or above.
