E Local Posted January 2, 2011 Share #26 Posted January 2, 2011 Isn't a Tenth Avenue Subway better as an extension too since the is right near Tenth Avenue. Anyway such a subway doesn't have to go all the way up to 207th Street since it would compete with the current Eighth Avenue Line services. It's best to have it terminate at 59th Street-Columbus Circle to better serve the farther regions of the West Side. hmm you make a point. I'll edit it.

Roadcruiser1 Posted January 2, 2011 Share #28 Posted January 2, 2011 A crosstown line. Without going to Manhattan interesting. It's similar to the . Though your idea allows a one seat ride from Bronx to Queens which I am also trying to accomplish on the map too. The best idea would be extend the Astoria Line to the Bronx, bring back the , and run it from Whitehall Street up to Pelham Bay Park with it's own alignment since the can't run with the . Here is what my idea looks like
Guest lance25 Posted January 2, 2011 Share #29 Posted January 2, 2011 @RC1: While your idea is okay, one would still have to go into Manhattan in order to get to Brooklyn since the Astoria line is isolated from other connections.
Roadcruiser1 Posted January 2, 2011 Share #30 Posted January 2, 2011 Or you could have the dig a tranfer from Queensboro Plaza to Queens Plaza, and you could have people boad the train at Queens Plaza, and ride one stop down to 23rd Street-Ely Avenue, and have them then transfer on to the which would get them to Brooklyn without going to Manhattan.
NX Express Posted January 2, 2011 Share #31 Posted January 2, 2011 Triboro RX!
Roadcruiser1 Posted January 2, 2011 Share #32 Posted January 2, 2011 I don't think the Triboro RX is possible given that only one free track exist on the Hell Gate Bridge, and the sold most of the ROW to Amtrak, and CSX. The only section that still belong to the is the current (able to carry 6 tracks, but now only carries 2 tracks) Bay Ridge Branch which is an FRA regulated railroad. That is why I suggested building 2 extra tracks for subway use, and connecting the current onto this line. The other 2 railroad tracks would be used by the LIRR, and would be brought back to a passenger line which would connect on to the SIR, and run on to Staten Island since the tracks exist right at the waterfront. The locations of the 2 other former tracks would have platforms for both LIRR, and the regular subway. Like this For the one seat ride from the Bronx to Brooklyn without going to Manhattan a better option would be to extend the to Throgs Neck with the . The would dip into the Harbor in a tunnel, and the would be extended up 21 Street and would go into the tunnel with the . The should also be extended down Fort Hamilton Parkway to serve Dyker Heights. I used to go to school around there, and the buses are heavily overcrowded. A subway line would reduce the crowding. To handle the estimated 40,000 to 70,000 riders the would be given 8 cars. Not just that it would take people off the buses crossing the Throgs Neck Bridge, and the Whitestone Bridge.
psoohoo Posted January 2, 2011 Share #33 Posted January 2, 2011 If we are talking about fantasies... I sure this been talked about to some extent before but here goes.. Make a 3 track connection between cypress hills and bway junction on the J along Jamaica Ave and complete the entire express track from there to 121 St. Make Woodhaven Blvd into an express station somehow. Build an new Cypress Hills station closer to Euclid and make it an express stop and three local station in btwn. Highland Blvd/Pl Warwick St/Ridgewood Ave Penn Ave-Bushwick Ave reconnect the three track before Bway Junction. Tear down the remaining Fulton Street El or make shuttle train on it. Additionally... Rebuild the Myrtle St (upper) and use it for Shuttle service to Metro and eliminate the M into manhattan. Make J service pattern similar to the 7 This will also allow the V to return in some manner (maybe into brooklyn)
Roadcruiser1 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #34 Posted January 3, 2011 Or you could rebuild the Myrtle Avenue Elevated. Downtown Brooklyn, and DUMBO aren't well served when they torn down the El there.

Roadcruiser1 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #39 Posted January 3, 2011 The current has 24 stations. Most current subway lines like the which has 43, and the which has 45 is more then what the has. The could be send up Tenth Avenue to 59th Street-Columbus Circle to better serve the West Side, and if possible gain 2 new tracks designated for subway use along the former LIRR Bay Ridge Branch creating a crosstown Brooklyn Line to 20th Avenue on the Sea Beach. If that happens the would gain 17 more stations to become 41. It would be the limit for the . Any extension to the after that would make it too long, and slow.

Finally, the direct connection to Borough Hall gives an alternate route for Queens commmuters who work in Downtown Brooklyn. This idea would allow you to do several of these things: the Myrtle Av segment would give Downtown Brooklyn/DUMBO the service you describe, while simultaneously covering the as far as Wyckoff and allowing for a new shuttle train to run Wyckoff-Metropolitan Av. The run east of Wyckoff is untouched territory which would probably do better being in the middle of a line than at the end of one; it may receive only marginal ridership, but the ridership on Main St, in Co-op City, and commuting to/from Downtown Brooklyn would be enough to sustain lesser-used areas. The map shows the whole route; each placemark is a station. Roadcruiser1 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #43 Posted January 3, 2011 You can extend the current Franklin Avenue Shuttle into a two tracked tunnel, make it two tracked, and run it down Downtown Brooklyn, and DUMBO which is unserved when they torn down the Myrtle Avenue Elevated. Run it into the 14th Street Tunnel with the into Manhattan, and once it runs down Tenth Avenue make that the local, and the express along Tenth Avenue.

Roadcruiser1 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #45 Posted January 3, 2011 The IRT Lines and the BMT/IND Lines can't run together not even in a fantasy world. Also R160 I thought up of another idea. Instead why don't you bring back the idea, and make a , skip stop service pattern similar to the , and . They would both have 41 stations, but because they would do skip stop it would be successful.
4P3607 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #46 Posted January 3, 2011 The IRT Lines and the BMT/IND Lines can't run together not even in a fantasy world. I dont see that in any of the fictional routes unless you are just making that statement. True, unless there are platform extenders along the whole entire platform or build platforms off to the the side if elevated.
Roadcruiser1 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #47 Posted January 3, 2011 The tunnels are also narrower along the IRT lines so it can't fit a B divison car. It won't work, and the would be too long. I suggest a second BMT service, and you split your line in half with one service serving one part, and the other another part. Also you can have other existing subway lines to cover up some parts. For example you could bring back the which is in my fantasy map, and branch it off at Marble Hill to serve the farther out section of Riverdale. Also the upper sections of Washington Heights is well served by the , and the . Your ideas in Brooklyn could be served by creating a service using the current tracks where it would branch off to use the upper Myrtle Avenue level, and continue on down to DUMBO, and Downtown Brooklyn. You could then have it curved up, and run into Manhattan somehow. Then you can send it up Third Avenue. I think though Third Avenue would be better with a Light Rail that goes up to Woodlawn Heights strechting all the way down to the new Ikea at Red Hook which is unserved by the subway. Also the Woodlawn Light Rail section in the Bronx would run west of the current . I know you are asking how would the Light Rail get into Manhattan. It would use the Brooklyn Bridge. The Brooklyn Bridge carried light rail up till the 1950's. With 6 traffic lanes, and a massive amount of pedestrian traffic I suggest two lanes would be removed for the Third Avenue Light Rail. Also for the Bronx extension a bridge should be built to help it get there. This would be helpful in the future, because A) Second Avenue might never happen It would do the same thing as the current Lexington Avenue Line therefore it would reduce overcrowding. C) It would be cheap to implement, and D) It would be attractive to look at.
4P3607 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #48 Posted January 3, 2011 actually running a B division line with an A division line is possible but very costly. You would have to shave back the platforms, then put automatic platform extenders all along the platforms and have the extenders know which train is the one that needs it or not. (S6)ee what I mean...
IRT Bronx Express Posted January 3, 2011 Share #49 Posted January 3, 2011 What about the tunnels? Impossible.
Roadcruiser1 Posted January 3, 2011 Share #50 Posted January 3, 2011 Just don't do it. Make a good project, and make it super cheap. Also an crew would find your route a nightmare. They might have to do a 6 hour work shift. They won't really get paid much for it. The is literally half as long as your proposal, and it takes 3 hours to operate it back, and forth. Train crews on your can only do a one way run. There is no way the would go for it.
