Colton Applauds MTA’s Revised Plan For SBS Service On B82 Route

Assembly Member William Colton (D-Gravesend, Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights) applauded the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) yesterday for their revised plan to bring bus-only lanes to the B82 bus route in South Brooklyn.

Earlier this year, Colton collected numerous petitions against the MTA’s initial plan to have bus-only lanes along Kings Highway between Bay Parkway and Ocean Avenue for Select Bus Service (SBS) to the B82 bus route. The petitions also included a letter detailing the community’s opposition and the disastrous consequences it would have on the neighborhood.

The new revised plan significantly reduces the number of Bus-Only lanes along Kings Highway from 28 to 8. This new change will restore almost 100 of the 169 parking spaces that the original plan threatened to take away.

Under the final revised plan which will start  October 1, only adjacent to subway stations, bus-only lanes will be in effect seven days a week from 7am-7pm. Pedestrian plazas and additional parking spaces will be created on Kings Highway where Quentin Road merges, eastbound at West 11th Street and westbound at West 10th Street.  A proposed left turn, ban from Kings Highway on West 7 and West 8 Streets will be put on hold until further study is done. New parking meters will be placed between West 12 and West 13 Streets on Kings Highway.
