First time taking a mta exam, just curious on the process. Do you have to score 90 plus to get called? Or its possible that in like 2-3 years a lower score will get called?

Last train exam they got up to people that scored an 80..this time around it may not be the case, but a 90 should def be enough to get called after a few yrshrs

Thanks a lot hopefully our time will come

Trust as long as you got a 90 plus you’ll have a fighting chance. It may take up to damn near 4 years after the list is finally establish but at least your in. Just make sure to continue to apply to other MTA exam like T/W that’s out now. Always give yourself other options to get in the door. Cause once your in your in. Then you can move around!

Drew,

So in your opinion, do you think that a score of a 90 will be good enough for some folks to get on, but my score of 86.6667 might not be? 😐😐

There’s always a chance but the lower your number the less of your chances, I was on the FDNY 2000 with a 98 and didn’t get called due to the SS number tie breaker. You have to keep in mind how many applicants took this exam versus the cities need for TO’s and if you were unlucky like me to have a high SS number that also can decrease your chances if it ends at your list number.

Imma be honest a 86 is really pushing it. The lowest i heard a MTA exam going to was the low 80’s and that was mainly because they extended the exam 2 times which they still calling people from that very C/R exam until next year Feb. So i mean you never know as long as you have faith.

Everyone has a chance.

There are rumors from the road that this will be the last open competitive train operator test and going forward the position will be strictly promotional... pending the hiring needs of transit.

Hi I took the exam and got one question wrong as per the proposed key. Now I have an accident that I was declared not at fault for last year. Also I was just recently stopped while driving. 5 points on my license but I will obviously inquire with a point reduction program but this still leaves 1 point on my license. Not expecting a sure answer but for those with experience in the hiring process do these casualties hurt my chances? Thanks in advance.

I hear what you saying and that’s the truth everybody does have a chance but if we’re speaking honestly and realistically. A lot of people don’t make it who scores in them mid to low 80’s unless they extend the exam. I personally don’t think they’ll extend this exam but that’s my opinion. I’ve spoken to people who work in HR. I myself work at 2 broadway at transit for marking as a customer serivice specialist. And everyone say for your best chances get in them 90’s because so many more people are taking these exams then ever before. That’s the reason I say always apply to other postions just get your feet in the door then you can move around. I’ve applied for 7 MTA exams already.

If it wasn't for the fact they extended the last open competitive twice I don't think anyone who scored below a 92 would have been reached. When I took the test back in 2009 I was told to score 95 or above to have any chance of being called due to the amount of people that took the test.

this is my first time applying for MTA, but other city agencies I've applied to they can use it if they want to (5 point deduction), its our jobs to stay clean and clear of everything until and even after date of hire.

when I was applying for civil service positions they used anything and everything to eliminate but that's a different profession and understandable that you must remain clear of any infractions.

To all those worried about not getting called for having a score in the eighties, you still have a great chance of being called. I was told the same back in 2009 and I scored a 90, I am now I'm a train operator. They will go through the list faster than you think, people will be dropping like flies.

Keep taking different tests, and live life as tho you never taken any tests.

wow this thread is quiet now.  still no word from MTA!  scored a 93-94 if i remembered correctly.  I assume they start with MTA employees, then go down the list from 100.  I would think they would have gone to the 90s by now!

I hope they CALL us, would be bad if they just email us and imagine that thing went to Spam mail and we deleted it.

Haven’t heard anything but following the conductor thread those with high scores should expect to get called in for OPA  wrote an official list is published. I’ve also heard from a few conductors I’ve met that they are short on TOs so boring off the new list is a priority but people talk so who knows.

I heard that a list will be published for this TO exam probably in june or july.  Is it possible to get called for before a list is even published ? ALSO, if a list is published does that include promotional employees ?

They only call after the list has been publish to the public. That can take weeks or months till they start the process calling in list 1 - 100.

This does not seem to be the case with conductor exam 6601, where they are calling people in for OPA prior to official list establishment.

If the test is OC, then they call by score regardless if you an employee or not.

That would be a provisional job offer, which transit has been doing with other titles. Train Operator is much longer schooling and process so they might not go that route. I never seen it don with this title, but like anything you never know.

Just to clear things up the OPA isn't a provisional  job offer it's just an assessment. You must pass that to move onto the drug test and eventually medical exam. I took my OPA for 6601 back in October of last year and haven't heard anything since.

To the person who said the T/O list may be published this summer I'd take that rumor with a huge grain of salt. They haven't even published C/R exam 6601 yet and that was given a year prior to this T/O exam.

Thank you for clearing it up.

Like any job you never know what the company is going to do next. I took the test in 2008/2009 and they started calling in 2013. I finally got called in 2015, I scored 90%. You just gotta take the test and wait it out. Take all tests available, and live life like you never taken these tests. I had a career before transit and didn't see this job coming.
