pjbr40 Posted October 23, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2016 This not about Amtrak. I have a question for MARTA and MBTA. In some of youtube and i had passed MARTA twice while i was riding Amtrak. Does some of their trains go into non electric territory. The reason I am asking is because the electric is right above them. Since I am from Nj, some routes are in electric territory while some trains go beyond non electric territory.Just curios if they do the same. Fan Railer Posted October 25, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 25, 2016 MARC is not MARTA. That aside, it is apparently cheaper for MARC and MBTA to run diesel trains under the wire than to pay Amtrak for the electricity fees. Additionally. it is also more cost effective to run a fully diesel fleet as opposed to a majority diesel fleet / minority electric fleet. It simplifies maintenance.
