Fix & Fortify - 14th Street (L Train) Tunnels Closure

Recommended Posts

New timetables for the B91/92, M14, the (G) and the (7) have been uploaded to the MTA site, but for some reason the (L) and (M) timetables haven’t been updated.

My inbox this morning has about 5 MTA emails saying "we are increasing (M) service!" Followed by one saying "M service is delayed. Expect longer wait times" LOL

I've heard that because of this (L) train mess alot people are going to be using Ubers and other car services to Manhattan, causing more congestion. I believe that the (L) lines would get shorter not because people are using the (MTA) alternatives, people will be driving/using car services to Manhattan instead.

The Ubers must be very happy.

And then these pop up for the (M) and (G)lines...

M/G stuffM/G stuff

The next 8th Ave bound (L) train isn't arriving at Halsey Street until 1:56 PM (time written at 1:05 PM). Any station west of that, it won't show 8th Ave bound trains.

At 1:29 PM the time changed from 1:36 PM to 1:56 PM. Hopefully, it's a glitch and not a 50+ minute wait until the next 8th Ave bound (L) train.

And this is why the (MTA) should have considered doing this where in addition to the through service, they did it in a way that allowed for supplemental shuttle service between 1st and 8th Avenues in Manhattan with such alternating with the main service if at all possible.

The demographic along the (L) especially the areas affected WILL take Uber and Lyft when things go south on the train, that part is predictable and not changeable.

Perhaps, but given what we ended up with (instead of what could've should've been), it was inevitable.

Honestly, I don't think it would've really mattered. The kind of people driving to Manhattan as an alternative to the (L) are most likely already paying a ton to park in Manhattan, so the congestion charge would just be minor hindrance to them.

As for Ubers, their congestion charge is already active.

And Cuomo did that in the eyes of some by orders of DONORS.  If the MTA does run into a problem, Cuomo if so can simply cite he "was being told to by people very important"  to do that and defer blame.

He’ll say the “guy who grabbed him by the suit lapels” made him do it. Or David Faber, lol...

Not when I was there over the weekend, but they may have done so in the days after. I'd have to go back and look.
