rockdove Posted January 4, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2017 Anyone stand near a police booth while waiting in the station and notice how filthy and disgusting some of them are? I don't think anyone is tasked with cleaning them and they are wretched with graffiti and grime. Here is one of the nicer examples
Missabassie Posted January 4, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2017 Yeah somma those booths look horrid.... Was this intended to be NYPD's version of the Japanese Kōban (police box)?
itmaybeokay Posted January 4, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2017 These are called Omega booths - not sure why they went with that name though. Far from the Koban - these aren't really there for passenger assistance. They're placed at the final stations before under-river tunnels. I understand that they're manned on one side or the other at any given time, with monitors overlooking the other end. It's an anti-terror measure - to prevent unauthorized persons from entering the tunnel.
