The R179s were out on the C line doing simulated stop testing. This is the first time these cars have been out on the road with operating signage.

Good job DJ.

To me it's a combo of the R142 and R169, but there are enough differences to make it an interesting train.

The side windows are longer and seems like the benches are slightly longer. The side flag placement is odd though.

I'm anticipating to hear the louder and bassier B-Division announcements as the speakers are fixtures like the original R142s rather than flush in the rest of the NTTs.

Are they using this for the A train also?

Four 10-car trains will be based at Pitkin Yard for service on the (A), so yes. But the majority of the 179s (the other 260 cars) are 4-car sets for 8-car trains, which are not fit for the (A). Those will see service on the (C) and (J)(Z).

When will they hit official service?

They will go into passenger service in the summer for a trial period. After such period, they will approve the delivery of these cars in September. And they will go into regular service soon after
