Although I now live in central Oklahoma, I was born and raised in New York and spent my first 23 years living in Bayside. My knowledge of the city was based on exploration that used a combination of the LIRR and New York subways. I doubt there was any subway line I did not ride.

 

As a refugee from Large Scale, one of the things that attracted me to O scale was the number of NY subway models that are available. I've just started on a small layout (nominally 15x8) and I'm beginning with elevated subway trains, especially those from the 7 line, which I rode many times.

 

I am very happy to be among NYC transit people!
