MTA/LIRR welder?

runt

Recommended Posts

I'm a NYS DOT and NYC DOB certified and experienced welder/fabricator. I work in construction currently, but I'm interested in something a little more stable. All my experience is in heavy equipment fabrication and repair. What job titles in the MTA/LIRR work as welders? I periodically check the employment websites of these agencies and never see any posting for welder...

Mostly Maintenance of Equipment crafts like Car repairman , Machinists and Pipefitter.

Ok, and if these crafts aren't listed on the exam list for this year, does that mean they are not hiring them this year? I'm a bit confused about the employment sections of the website and how to get an interview for certain positions.

LIRR positions are not listed with MTA open competitive exams for Transit. LIRR and Metro North have their own section on the MTA website.

According to this webpage, the filing period for Track Worker (Open-Competitive) is this October, and there might be a specialist job in there, once you get your foot in the door and get some seniority...

Just wanted to follow up. Met a track worker with a little less than 2 years on the job, and he mentioned he is scheduled to be trained in welding and eventually jumping to specialist pay.

That being said, if coming in with a CDL and any sort of industrial specialty would be a great advantage.
