GojiMet86 Posted August 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 26, 2017 Took a trip with my family and a friend down to DC. I managed to catch the older Orion V buses, along with new Xcelsior buses on the WMATA routes and on the DC Circulator. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlJGVvtYB2Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AFDUpQ8zS8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bg6NVrXJWw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05CWjkHYsZA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4wAbapDXGg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq8qm2lev5w IMG_1636 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1637 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1640 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1651 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1653 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1760 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1923 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1926 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1930 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1934 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1935 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1938 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1943 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1944 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1948 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1951 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1952 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1954 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1956 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_1959 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2050 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2053 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2054 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2055 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2057 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2077 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2078 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2082 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2129 by GojiMet86, on Flickr IMG_2130 by GojiMet86, on Flickr
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted August 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2017 One thing I like about the DC Circulator is that the Georgetown Route runs directly into Union Station. It's convenient enough to take straight from the Intercity Bus Operators. Granted, I stayed in Rosslyn, I had to transfer, but it was still pretty decent. Those new buses are sorely needed, especially on the Dupont Circle-Rosslyn route.

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted August 26, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 26, 2017 So what's the set-up down there? Are there express buses? Do the poor only use the local buses?
theaveragejoe Posted September 7, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2017 So what's the set-up down there? Are there express buses? Do the poor only use the local buses? People with less money take the buses around the metro instead of the metrorail as rail is charged by distance
BM5 via Woodhaven Posted September 8, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 8, 2017 So what's the set-up down there? Are there express buses? Do the poor only use the local buses? There are several express bus lines down there. WMATA has a few, although ones straight to DC were eliminated in June (local buses to the metrorail replaced them). Regular transit buses are used. For the airport routes, a higher fare is charged, and there are upholstered seats (at least on the older models). Fairfax Connector provides express bus service to Tysons, Rosslyn, and the Pentagon (not to DC though). Regular transit buses are used. OmniRide and Loudoun County Transit are the commuter bus routes with actual coaches. There are a combination of areas which are serve, including Tysons, the Pentagon, Rosslyn, Ballston, and a lot of Washington DC. The area is also a "hub" for the MTA Maryland routes which are contracted to other companies. You see a lot of different models and companies operating said service. None of these have weekend service, and there's limited weekend service. The 5A is the only express bus route operating daily (operated by WMATA). Most local buses are used by everyone, sometimes regardless of having the Metrorail below them.
