Thanks bro. I should make my nephew and niece take it then. Maybe i will take it as well. Two more question. Is the test a simple reading comprehension test?Lastly lets say you pass and are 17 what is the process if you are too young? Will the MTA wait for you?

No problem. As far as the age requirement is concerned, it will probably be at least one [1] calendar year between when the exam is given and when the list is established.

As far as being too young when they call you, you can always restore your name to the list providing the list did not expire.

What does a track worker do? can someone please explain the job.

Read the job description from the Notice of Examination from Exam 3600 here. and from 8704, which was open last month, here. We should get an updated job description when the Notice of Examination for this exam comes out on Friday (hopefully).

From reading the Track Worker 3600 thread, the truck & tractor trailer driving jobs are "specialist" jobs in which you can bid into them once you have enough seniority.

If you have the  time, go through that thread. It's not that lengthy and there is some information in there reading truck jobs, promotions, etc.

Good luck!!

I know that they want to hire atleast 600 people for track worker. I know someone that went from school safety to track worker. He said they are eager to hire fast. They didn't even let him finish training berfore they pulled him out. He is already on the job and had 15hrs overtime first week.

It's up now, and can be viewed here. Just like I expected, the exam, which is going to include a memory portion, is going to be harder than the last one...

I was having trouble with the 'Apply Now' button kept giving me an Oracle error?  I tried right clicking the button and hit Open In New Tab and it worked, I applied.  I'm using Chrome by the way.  Hope that helps somebody out.  Thanks +Young+

Offhand, do you meet the education & experience requirements for all of these exams? Cause I know I don't meet the requirements for Assistant Stock Worker, Train Operator nor Transit Electrical Helper. If that's the case, then you would be wasting your time and money...

I meet requirements for T/O.

As far as Stock Worker, I worked in a warehouse but it's not exactly what they're looking for.

Lastly, for Electrical Helper, I described my experience with computers / networking, also a bit of a long shot, however since they invited me to take the Safety Proficiency Assesment, doesn't that mean that I passed the Education and Experience test as described in NOE? Also, my dad is a Signal Maintainer and he encouraged me to apply regardless.

I honestly don't know, however since you have your father encouraging you to apply, that is definitely a good sign.

Good luck!!

If called is it possible to work in Staten Island or this position isn't available there. ?

Just trying to find out as much as possible about the job thanks !

Staten Island Railway Transit Operating Authority (SIRTOA) has their own trackworker exam.  However it is not a civil service appointment.

My class that started on 9/11 had our on-the-job training cut short from 4 weeks to just 2 days. In that time, we just practiced using different power tools one time each, and using hand signs to communicate with a crane operator.  On the 2nd day of OTJ, we were told to report to another yard for two days for courses in back safety, fire safety, and respirator fitting, all of which  were 8 hours each.  They rushed us into the field so fast that we had to do a double shift on either the Thursday or Saturday of that week to cram all the mandatory training in.  By the end of that week, we accrued 16 hours of OT for that pay period .

According to the instructors, Transit is looking to hire 500 track workers over the next year.  It appears to me after working in the field that there is a cleaning initiative in effect where they want to have more track workers to clean the tracks in and around the stations ASAP, and operate some kind of new vacuum that will be introduced.  Everyone in my class were only given cleaning gangs to pick from during our mini-pick which makes me suspect this.

The 'new' vacuum can be seen here. As far as the "cleaning initiative", more about that can also be seen here. Thanks for the heads up about hiring about 500 track workers, with a list number in the 2800's for Exam #3600, I'll be very curious to see what happens...
