MNRR & LIRR Planned/Unplanned Service Changes

BM5 via Woodhaven

Recommended Posts

The first weekend of June the LIRR main line will be out between Mineola and Hicksville, no shuttle bus between those two points. MTA websites says to take NICE N22 or N24 Bus to between Hicksville and Mineola. Ronkonkma/Port Jeff riders east of there will have to ride to Hicksville, take a shuttle train from Hicksville to Babylon for an special express train from Babylon to Penn stopping at Jamaica.

Kinda surprised they are not providing a shuttle bus between Mineola and Hicksville.

The LIRR could give a rat's ass about its customers, hence the recommendation to take perenially late, unreliable N22. It's probably more reliable than whatever shuttles they'd end up scrounging up - remember the fiasco that was the "Summer of Hell" replacement buses?

For the second time today, the Montauk Branch is suspended (first time was a downed tree).

Suspended

Montauk Branch service is suspended between Montauk and Speonk due to an unauthorized person on the tracks west of Hampton Bays. Buses have been ordered and are en route to Hampton Bays.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Also, there is no New Canaan branch service until July 8th:

Service Change

Substitute busing will be in effect on the New Canaan Branch between New Canaan and Stamford over 9 days, June 29 - July 7, to accommodate the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT) Atlantic Street Bridge Replacement.

Substitute busing will continue through the early morning, Monday July 8.

All New Canaan buses will leave between 10 to 20 minutes earlier than their published schedule to meet the train times in Stamford.

Due to a number of schedule changes on the New Haven Line during the 9-day project, customers are urged to look up their train prior to expected trip. Train times can be accessed at mta.info. We apologize for the inconvenience while CDOT completes this important project.

As per Brooklyn Bus Existing Conditions Report:

https://new.mta.info/document/14101

Page 30.

Quote

As part of the East Side Access opening day service plan beginning in 2022, LIRR will initiate frequent, dedicated train service between Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica. This new LIRR service will make all local stops (Atlantic Terminal, Nostrand Avenue, East New York, and Jamaica), with trains operating from a dedicated, newly constructed platform in Jamaica. Peak-period train service between Brooklyn and Jamaica will operate every 7-8 minutes in both directions, while off-peak and weekend service will operate every 15 minutes in both directions. This represents a large increase in off-peak and weekend service frequency compared with the current 30-minute headway.

This is excellent. Now, will they replace on-board ticket collection with an OMNY tap - preferably one in-system at Atlantic?

It's possible, especially since they may continue a Atlantic Ticket/Freedom Ticket type program. And that segment will be semi-isolated from the rest of the network. You think they'll use 4 car or 6 car trains?

Main Line doesn't get respect from LIrr. All Huntington/Ronkonhoma branches rerouted as babylon fliers, where shuttle train operates between Hicksville and Babylon. Only M7 cars stop at Bethpage, but most diseal train has stop at Bethpage.

Main Line Shuttle buses has been crowded during Westbury School St crossing incident.

I do not think the union will agree to this. Otherwise I think tap in/out is long overdue.

I wonder why LIRR refuse to get shuttle bus for Main Line between Mineola and Hicksville via Carle Place and Westbury.

I heard from PinepowerLI, sometimes NICE bus drivers on n22/n24 bus doesn't cross honor LIRR ticket.

They probably don't cross honor because some B/O's aren't aware of the LIRR service change that allows cross honoring...

When LIRR cross honors for NYCT G.O many times the LIRR C/R isn't aware of the cross honor...

The LIRR must request that NICE cross honor and on what routes if so. During the recent storm NICE was asked about cross honoring. Their response was along the lines of the fact it is up to the LIRR to request it, and since they didn’t request that NICE cross honor, they aren’t under any obligation to.

Limited Service north of Southeast will resume starting on Monday. However, riders will have to transfer to a bus at Southeast, and then again to a train at Golden's Bridge, for service into Lower Westchester and New York City:

Just a random thought, why is LIRR service to St. Albans so infrequent when tons of Babylon Branch trains pass that station each day. Hourly weekday service is fine but Hourly weekend and overnight service can easily be added at no extra cost.

Even when NICE Bus mentions LIRR ticket being cross honor, some times NICE Bus drivers don't cross honor.

Also another problem with fixed-route buses, it will be problem for cyclists since fixed-route buses can't accept bikes, but many shuttle buses can.
