MNRR & LIRR Planned/Unplanned Service Changes

LIRR service is delayed due to an Amtrak problem in the east river tubes, this has messed up NJT service too.

 

I'm personally caught up in this as I'm on an NY bound Amtrak train delayed in NJ..

Surprisingly only one LIRR train got cancelled (an eastbound Port Washington Branch Train). Everything else and any other connection ran with varying level of delays.

Looks like some Metro North trains may end up getting cancelled for the AM rush:

AM rush delays into/out of Grand Central Terminal

Expect delays tomorrow morning while repairs are being made to damaged power cables caused by a broken water main near the Park Avenue Tunnel. Anticipate inbound delays of 10-15 minutes, up to 30-minute outbound delays, and possible canceled/combined trains.

Busing

Montauk Branch train service is temporarily suspended between Sayville and Montauk after a person was hit by a train east of Sayville.

Buses are en route. We advise customers to use the Ronkonkoma Branch as an alternative if possible. We will keep you updated.

The 8:36pm train from Babylon due Speonk at 9:38pm has been canceled in Babylon after someone was struck by a train near Sayville.

Planned - Trains Rerouted

Trains run every 2 hours and are rerouted between Jamaica and Farmingdale, taking up to 50 minutes longer than normal

Mar 5 - 7 and Mar 12 - 14, Sat 12:15 AM to Mon 3:30 AM

Bi-level diesel trains will run every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma. Between Jamaica and Farmingdale, they will travel via Babylon and will change directions twice, but not make any station stops. This means that your trip will take up to 50 minutes longer than normal. If possible, consider using the Babylon or Montauk Branches.

There is no train service at Bethpage. Shuttle buses will be available to Farmingdale, where you can transfer to diverted Ronkonkoma Branch trains to Jamaica and Penn Station. A local bus will connect Mineola, Hicksville, Bethpage, and Farmingdale for intra-branch travel. For bus departure times, view the special PDF timetable.

The last normal trains to run are the 11:14 PM from Penn Station and the 11:16 PM from Ronkonkoma on Friday night. Service resumes with the 3:33 AM from Penn Station and 4:06 AM from Ronkonkoma on Monday morning.

We are commissioning a new signal system near Carle Place, a major step towards the completion of the LIRR Expansion Project later this year.

Realtime information for Ronkonkoma Branch trains will not be available in the TrainTime app on these weekends.

No trains between Jamaica and Huntington

Mar 12 - 14, Sat 12:15 AM to Mon 5:00 AM

Take the Hempstead Branch instead, which will have increased service all weekend.

Express buses run between Hempstead, Mineola, Hicksville, and Huntington. Connect at Huntington with train service to Port Jefferson, which runs every two hours.

Local buses run between Hempstead, Mineola, Hicksville, Syosset, Cold Spring Harbor, and Huntington.

For New Hyde Park, use the nearby Stewart Manor station.

For Merillon Avenue, use the nearby Nassau Boulevard station.

For Carle Place and Westbury, NICE Bus is accepting LIRR tickets on the n22 and n24 bus routes between Hicksville and Mineola. See nicebus.com for schedules.

The last trains to run are the 10:52 PM from Port Jefferson and 11:39 PM from Penn Station on Friday night. Service resumes with the 5:08 AM from Huntington and 5:16 AM from Jamaica on Monday morning.

Due to the nationwide bus driver shortage, there may be school buses supplementing our regular coach shuttle bus service. <<

As of 10:00 PM, service is still suspended:

Service remains suspended on the Hempstead Branch in both directions due to a third rail problem caused by an unauthorized vehicle on the tracks.

As an alternative, use the New Hyde Park, Merillon Ave., and Mineola stations on the Mainline. NICE Bus is cross-honoring fares for LIRR ticket holders on the N6 between Jamaica and Hempstead, and the N40/41 between Hempstead and Mineola.

Service on the Hempstead Branch has resumed:

Delays

Service has been restored on one of two tracks between Bellerose and Garden City following an earlier service suspension.

Customers can expect delays and possible cancellations. LIRR personnel continue to work to make repairs to a third rail problem caused by an earlier unauthorized vehicle on the tracks. We thank you for your patience and we will keep you updated.

Rail Condition at Plandome has led to a suspension of the Port Washington Branch east of Great Neck, with service reduced to hourly.

 

Part Suspended

We are running hourly train service between Great Neck and Penn Station. Train service remains suspended between Great Neck and Pt Washington.

Buses are now available in both directions between Great Neck and Port Washington Station.

Will they hold the shuttle buses at East Williston, extend the buses north to Oyster Bay....or will riders be SOL when service resumes?

Oyster Bay Branch train service is suspended in both directions between East Williston and Oyster Bay.

This is due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a train near Albertson.

Don't know where the incident happened, but was there no way to at least keep partial service on this branch?

The person was struck at Flushing so there is nowhere else for the trains to turn from the NY end that won't energize third rail and endanger the people who are trying to clear the problem.

Maybe they should consider adding a turning point at Willets Point. But then, you need the to get to Flushing anyways, so maybe that would just be pointless.
