BM5 via Woodhaven Posted December 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2017 The Summer of Hell had a lot of alternatives (more than needed, tbh, but they existed), so it was time to see what the deal was with those. Many of these were buses. Below is some footage of the LIRR Hunterspoint Avenue shuttle bus, which was discontinued August 2nd. I rode it the day before it was discontinued. I had to do a wayback search for the schedule, since by the time I was leaning to take the bus, the schedule was taken down. 2012 New Flyer C40LF 256 on the LIRR Hunterspoint Avenue Shuttle by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr LIRR Shuttle Bus Stop at Hunterspoint Avenue by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr There were several express buses from Penn Station to Long Island. Unfortunately, by the time I started taking the services, the service was trimmed to hourly service on five routes, from 15-20 minute service on eight routes. The first one I rode was the Melville Park & Ride Express. This trip, from Penn Station to LIE Exit 49, took a little over two hours. Most service was provided by Academy Bus. Below is footage of the Melville Park & Ride Express, along with a five-part video of the journey. 2010-2011 MCI D4505CT 11962 on the LIRR Melville Park & Ride Express (operated by Academy Bus) at Melville Park & Ride by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr 2010-2011 MCI D4505CT 11962 on the LIRR Melville Park & Ride Express (operated by Academy Bus) at Melville Park & Ride by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr Anyways, here are some actual LIRR trains 2002 Bombardier M7 Car 7196 on Long Beach Branch Train 824 at Lynbrook Station by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr 2002 Bombardier M7 Car 7543 on Port Washington Branch Train 434 at Great Neck Station by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr 2002 Bombardier M7 Car 7822 on Long Beach Branch Train 851 at Lynbrook Station by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr 2002 Bombardier M7 Car 7835 on Port Washington Branch Train 451 at Great Neck Station by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr 2002 Bombardier M7 Car 7535 on Hempstead Branch Train 6761 at Jamaica by BM5 via Woodhaven, on Flickr

The Hunterspoint Avenue Shuttle took people between the LIC Ferry and the Hunterspoint Avenue LIRR station. I don't know about the route toward the Ferry, but the bus originated from Shore Boulevard & Borden Avenue, then took Borden, to Vernon, and then merged right onto Jackson Avenue. It then merged right onto a side street, then right on 21 Street, and then left onto 49 Avenue. The route was similar to old Q69 shuttle.
