R179 update (as of 12/21/18)

East New York

(J)(Z)  3050-3069, 3074-3149 (96) [12 trains]

Pitkin

(C)  3150-3181 (32) [4 trains]

*Pitkin assignments are temporary*

Saw a few of those R179s on the (C) last few weeks. Why temporary though?

Also, will there be any (2)/(5), (4), and (6) train swaps happening before April 2019? I hope that no R62As end up on the (2) / (5) because if so, I’m going to go ape nuts.

Why would they do such a swap in the IRT?

Someone on YouTube (a younger railfan by the name of Andy Molina) said this:

Quote

The 6 train is going to get all the R142as from the 4! And the 6 will also get some of the R142s from the 2/5 line! The 4 is gonna get more R142s from the 2/5 line! And the 2/5 line will get the R62as from the 6 line! But not all the R142s on the 2/5 line will be gone to the 4 or 6! The 2/5 will give some of the R142s to the 6 and 4!

Can someone explain why this would be logical, as this would do nothing to increase service on the (2) / (5), (4), and (6), but rather reduce service on the lines and create delays on the (2)/(5) at Flatbush Avenue to switch signs where none currently exists?

Also, here is the link to the video description where I got that from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwlEdIQNJxk

*too many incomplete sentences for a comment from YouTube*

🤦‍♂️I swear these young YouTubers need to restrain themselves with these comments lest they wind up misinforming more fanners. Don't where they're getting these sources from but until East New York, Caitsith, or any other admins have any word about this supposed swap, best believe they're nothing but baseless rumors.

I agree. I bet that none of these YouTubers have ever been on the (2) and (5) lines along Nostrand Avenue, nor do they even know how the (2) / (5) operations work. With the operations of the (2) and (5) at Flatbush Avenue due to all of the constant sign switching (which I have seen personally since I take that route coming home from college classes in Downtown Brooklyn during the Fall and Spring Semesters) that routinely occurs there, there is no way that those two lines are getting R62As from their rightful place on the (6) line. And the fact that the MTA is adding two extra (6) trains during rush hours in April (source: http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/180924_1030_Transit.pdf, page 293-297) doesn't even warrant a large scale swap like that they mention.

And by the way, do you think the (6) will have enough cars to implement the much-needed April service increases without negatively impacting the spare factor?

And when will they add extra cars to the (2) / (5) and (4) lines to increase Brooklyn IRT service? I feel like playing the waiting game at Borough Hall and Franklin Avenue after my evening class lets out at 8:30PM. Just asking.

Some of these kid railfanners on YouTube claim that their information comes from the MTA. That is the main problem. Not to mention that these are the same young people who are complaining about the R142As leaving the (6) line, causing a "degradation" of service, when in fact, they are doing this to increase service on the (6) and (7) lines to end situations where people are left on super-crowded platforms because trains are too full to board.

For future reference, you should not refer to youtubers as reliable source thinking their facts are from the MTA crew. That's like having an outburst saying that cheese does not make a cheeseburger.

Andy Molina is a useless idiot as are the rest of those fools who like to write their personal subway fantasies and claim "insider knowledge". Pay them no mind.
