What is the most rarest catch you've ever gotten in the subway?

Although I personally haven't witnessed it myself, I'd consider seeing a set of in-service R62s or R62As on the (2) or (5) lines in The Bronx a very rare sight. With the Redbirds dominating the White Plains Road and Dyre Avenue lines before the R142s were introduced, I wonder if the R62s or R62As ever saw life on those lines on a regular basis.

They did in the 90s, at least one set of 62As ran on the (5) so the overnight shuttle could be opto.

Not "catch" as in ride, but just passing by; an R46 in the Chambers St. relay, in the 90's. Apparently for a movie shoot.

It was funny, as I was riding from Fulton St. and looking out that side window, and a bit sleepy, and I see the LCD signs rising up out of the middle, like you would see going into Canal on Bway with the City Hall Yard leads rising where 46's were stored. So  it was like a sudden "where am I?" Never did find out what that shoot was for.

I remember in 90's there was like two sets of R62/A on the (5)  I used to catch them often in HighSchool. Id say this was maybe 1996- up until I moved to California in 1998.

(Edit): Just saw @trainfan22  post  I can corroborate that.

I'm back in NY but yeah i've lived in the Bay Area for about 10 years off and on both school and work. Emeryville, Oakland, Berkeley, Glen Park.. I'm flying out again next week for a Blockchain Conference on the side every 1-2 months. Hope to hop a ride on those new Bombardier cars on the BART while out there.. The new Siemens LRV's as well.

BART cars without carpet and more doors...that'd make it worth driving from Roseville to Emeryville or Richmond instead of into the City to see the Giants or drink in the Marina District.

Still wouldn't have stayed in Sacramento. NY Strong for 5 years now, and never looked back.

Roseville is 15 miles NE of Downtown Sac on I-80 or Business 80, on the way to Thunder Valley Casino or Reno. It’s the equivalent of White Plains just with worse people.

Riding a R38 (B) Train in 2000

Riding a R110B (C) Train

Riding (N) Train via 6th Avenue in 2000 during a G.O (Yes it was a common G.O at the time)

Riding a Redbird (4) Train via 7th Avenue Local in 2002 I think

Riding a (D) Train that ran local, used the spur at 72nd Street and switched back local in 2002. Don't know the reason why it used the spur even though it didn't switch express but I remember it was during a weird G.O where (C) Trains ran between High Street and Euclid Avenue only.

Riding a (9) Train via Lenox in 2003

(R) Train to 2nd Avenue in 2003 (G.O)

Riding a R38 (V) Train in 2005 during that whole fire incident.

Seeing a R38 (A) Train rerouted via Brighton Line in 2008 right after that huge downpour storm.

Riding the R40M (E) Train via CPW Local

Riding a nearly empty (D) Train which was really surprising since it wasn't even during the evening nor overnight hours back in 2010

Riding a (C) Train to Norwood-205th Street in 2010

Riding a R160 (C) Train back in 2011 when it was really considered rare and exclusive (Yes it was posted on here years ago).

A weekend (B) Train that was originally was supposed to be a Yankees Special but they switched it to run it as a (B) to WTC in 2011.

Rerouted (B) Train to Inwood-207th Street in 2011

R68A (C) Train back in 2012

Riding an (A) Train via Queens Blvd back in 2013

R142 (3) Train in 2014

(D) Train wrong railing into 59th Street on the Uptown Local Tracks in 2014 and 2015.

R160 (B) Train in 2015 and 2016

R160 (D) Train after Christmas 2016 due to that whole fire at 7th Avenue.

(3) Via Lexington Avenue Express last year.

(R) via 8th Avenue Recently.

How did that GO work? I assume it turned at 21st Queensbridge?

(N) Ran in two sections.

1. Between Ditmars Blvd and Canal Street OR Whitehall Street (It varied)

2. 21st Street-Queensbridge and Coney Island via 6th Avenue Express.

And as for the (R) it would either run between Forest Hills-71st Avenue and 34th Street-Herald Square only or suspended entirely depending if there was a G.O on Queens Blvd.

The G.O was done alot of times in 1999-2001.

I caught an R160 (R) train on June 12, 2017 and rode on it from Dekalb Av to Jay St - MetroTech. I took pictures of it after I came off, but the train was already driving away so the pictures became blurry. I still have those pictures on my phone. That's how I know what date I caught an R160 (R) train.

A set of R160s assigned to the (R) isn't that uncommon; I can recall seeing them on the (R) ocassionally, but it's not rare.

Yesterday, on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018, the White Plains Road line saw an exceptionally rare occurrence of 2 in-service rerouted (3) trains made up of R62 cars that terminated at East 180th Street. Like I've mentioned before, witnessing SMEE-type equipment in passenger service on the (2) or (5) is extremely unusual! Take a look at this video of the action caught by DJ Hammers:
