Sorry for the delay. Here are all the other service changes, by borough

Brooklyn:

B15: Net Weekday Service Improvements

- Service from 4 AM to 5 AM towards JFK will run every 8 minutes instead of every 10-12 minutes

-  Midday Service will run every 7-8 minutes SB instead of every 10 minutes

- NB evening service between Spring Creek and JFK will run every 7-8 minutes instead of every 10 minutes

http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bkln/b015cur.pdf

Significant improvement for this route

B41 LTD: Service Increases

- (Core Route) AM Service will run every 4 minutes during the height of the rush, service every 4-6 minutes instead of every 6-8 minutes

- (Core Route) PM service will run every 9-13 minutes instead of every 8 minutes

- Most buses to Bergen Beach operate to Kings Plaza, and vice-versa (Kings Plaza get later LTD service)

http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bkln/b041cur.pdf

Excellent. However, the Bergen Beach Limited isn't really addressed.

B41 Local: Weekday Service Adjustments

- (Core Route up to Flatbush/Nostrand) AM peak service from 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM will run every 1-4 minutes instead of every 10 minutes

- (Core Route) service from 7 AM to 7:45 AM will run every 7-8 minutes instead of every 5 minutes

- (Core Route) PM shoulder service will run every 7 minutes instead of every 8 minutes

- Late evening service will run every 15-20 minutes instead of every 12 minutes

http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bkln/b041cur.pdf

Crush load for the AM/PM Rush. However, late night service for the 41 only spells 25-30 min wait

B46 Local: Service Reduction

- The 4:50 AM and 4:56 AM trips from Kings Plaza to WBP have been combined into a 4:52 AM trip

- Less AM service from Eastern Parkway to Kings Plaza SB

- Less PM service Southbound (service every 10 minutes instead of every 9 minutes north of DeKalb)

- Service will operate every 5-8 minutes instead of every 2-5 minutes from 6:30 AM to 7:00 AM

- Evening service will run every 10 minutes instead of every 8 minutes (from 8 PM to 10:30 PM) and every 12 minutes (from 10:30 PM to 11 PM)

- (Saturday) Late evening service will run every 12 minutes instead of every 10 minutes

http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/bkln/b046cur.pdf

SBS gets preference. Local service treated like stepchild.

Q54: Weekday Service Reductions

- Service will operate every 8 minutes instead of every 6 minutes during the AM rush

- Service will operate every 15-20 minutes instead of every 12-15 minutes during midday

- The 3:12 PM trip from Jamaica to Fresh Pond Road will be discontinued (Short turn eliminated)

- Service will operate every 8-10 minutes in the early PM rush instead of every 4-8 minutes

http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/queens/q054cur.pdf

This is interesting for the Q54.

Q56: AM Peak Service Increases

- Service will operate every 10 minutes from 6 AM to 7 AM (EB) / 8 AM to 9 AM (WB) instead of every 12 minutes

http://web.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/queens/q056cur.pdf

Good improvement. However, what happens when the (J)(Z) ends up stalling on a bad day. This needs to be at least 7 mins in both directions.

Responses in red.

Moral of the story East New York and Flatbush getting moderate service increases and Fresh Pond loses this time around,  I could see some movement of buses within the division to compensate for the some increases heading into the summer.

A few extra notes:

Extra westbound S74 trip between 7PM & 7:50PM and adjusted headway accordingly (so it's more frequent, but buses aren't as well-coordinated with the ferry)

Eastbound S66 trip added at 8AM.

Westbound S93 service operates every 20 minutes instead of every 30 minutes from 1-3PM.

Also, the X17 saw a runtime reduction (from Tottenville to Woodrow Road is now scheduled for 25 minutes instead of 30 minutes) and downstream times have been adjusted accordingly.

I don’t like that the S53 service gets reduced when trips are added to the S93.

The reductions on the S53 are generally at different time periods compared to the S93 additions. For example, in the evening traveling westbound, the S53 sees a service reduction, but the S93 sees no change in service (it continues to operate every 30 minutes). In the early PM rush, the S53 sees an increase in eastbound service (from 10 minute headways to 8 minute headways) and the S93 sees an increase from 15 minute headways to 10 minute headways.

I will say, on the S93, I'm disappointed in how stingy they're being overall. There's been 2 committee meetings where they mentioned service would be improved from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes, but there's still sections of 30 minute headways, and the ridership levels are similar to the rest of the midday period.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these service changes seem unnecessarily balanced towards reductions in service, which seems unwise.

Why is the MTA reducing bus service in so many areas? Are these reductions all really warranted in a time when bus ridership continues to decline, in large part because of large headways? For example, the Bx1/2 and B1 are busy routes, yet service is being reduced throughout the day on these lines.

And the MTA continues, for whatever reason, to operate SBS routes as though they're in competition with their local counterparts by gutting local service. What is being gained from this, other than increased crowding on SBS buses? This time they are doing it with two of the busiest routes, the Bx12 and the B46 - but these are corridors where lots of people are riding at all hours of the day, and as a result, every bus counts, whether that's a local bus or a select. Local and SBS buses should be operated together and should complement one another, not needlessly compete like this. Not to mention, there's no corresponding increase in SBS service on either of the above routes to make up for the loss of local service.

How the MTA hopes to win back a single bus rider by operating their service like this, I'll never know.

This is what they call "adjusting service levels to meet demand". The "alternative" would be "to do nothing" and gasp actually see buses where riders aren't packed in like sardine cans.

Who ever said the MTA wants to win back bus riders? Most of their moves suggest they're okay with losing even more riders as they complain about the decrease.

Typical nickel & diming shit, at usual.... The MTA has been foolish the rest of the 364 days out of any given year, so today's definitely no different.

I don't feel compelled to talk about any of these individual changes, but thanks for the update anyway.....

Eastchester express bus schedules are now out for "Spring 2018"

Highlights:

-BxM7 gets a new 04:45 trip from Co-Op City to Midtown-23rd street

-BxM9 gets a new 04:45 trip from Throggs Neck to Midtown-23rd street

Something tells me that some political clout had something to do with a 4:45AM bus service into Midtown. Before you know it possible all night service on the BxM7 and BxM9. (Hourly)

Well there are some including myself who want earlier service.  The folks in Woodlawn asked for the BxM4 to start earlier and elected officials wrote to the (MTA) and the (MTA) agreed to start it earlier, so now the first bus was bumped up by 10 minutes to 05:40 instead of 05:50, and service ends earlier to Manhattan (22:40 instead of 22:50) weekdays.  I've been hearing about the construction guys who take the 05:30 BxM1 Super Express bus complaining.  There's a lady I ride with at night who works for a management company who takes that bus and they've been pissed at the driver who drives like a snail and gets them Downtown barely with enough time to grab coffee and a bite to eat.

My neighborhood is mainly white collar workers, but the Irish guys who do blue collar jobs in construction would benefit.  I also would like earlier service on weekends because starting the BxM2 at 08:00 on Sundays isn't cutting it and then service back to Riverdale starts too late. There are times when I like to go shopping early in the city to say Tribeca or the Upper East Side and getting out early is great. I beat the crowds and traffic, get my stuff done and then go home and relax. Makes for a much faster commute.  We also have a lot of doctors and RNs in Riverdale at Mount Sinai that have to work on weekends because they may have their off days during the week and they work odd hours, so they too would benefit from earlier service.

What I've been pushing for is a 07:00 BxM2 and a 07:30 BxM1 on Sundays, with part of the day having 30 minute headways per line and I've also asked that the 22:30 BxM1 to Manhattan  be restored as well as the 23:40 trip back to Riverdale.  Some folks don't take the express bus on Sundays because of the hourly waits. It really sucks when the buses are delayed, and the trips can take almost an hour and 30 minutes at times.  I also have been trying to get direct service for Riverdale on weekends on the BxM1, with every other bus skipping Inwood. Many in Riverdale hate the Inwood buses because they are slow and take too long, thus leaving them with the BxM2 as the only option when shopping or going to work on the Upper East Side.

The argument I've used is that the BxM10 starts at 07:00 on Sundays and has for years because they know that a lot of people work at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Morris Park, and need earlier service, but yet we have many people working at Mount Sinai and we can't get earlier service.

As for the BxM9, representatives of Throggs Neck have been very vocal about the horrendous service.  James Vacca has been a bulldog about getting better service.  A lot of riders have been opting for the BxM8 which runs later and is more prompt.  Throggs Neck should have later service because all they have is the express bus (no ferry or Metro-North like other areas in the Bronx are getting).  He also helped to keep the BxM8 City Island trips which the (MTA) was considering cutting or at least cutting back to Pelham Bay.  I posted some articles below.

BxM9 not so express

MAY 29, 2012 / NEWS

By Kirsten Sanchez

This MTA express bus isn’t living up to its name.

Riders on the BxM9 bus in Throggs Neck are “expressing” their aggravation over what they say are constantly late buses, making them late for work.

The locals, who catch the bus at the corner of Randall and E. Tremont Avenues, claim the bus heading into Midtown Manhattan is consistently 20 minutes to a half hour late.

On Monday, May 14, the 9:47 a.m. bus arrived at 10:05 a.m.

The 10:13 a.m. bus pulled up 10:25 a.m.

Anthony Terminello, a frequent rider of the BxM9 bus, said the buses scheduled to arrive around 10 a.m. have been arriving late for about a month.

“It is a bit of a inconvenience because it is an extra twenty minutes or half hour before you can get to work, making you late.”

Terminello said express service was much better when the bus company was privately owned, before the takeover by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

“There used to be a number on the side of the bus that you could call, and a woman would pick up and call the dispatcher of the bus you were looking for,” Terminello said. “And the dispatcher would come on and tell you why the bus was late or what was happening.

“Now, you call MTA and they tell you to go to the web site, which doesn’t tell you anything. It’s hopeless!”

Judith Valenciano, another frustrated bus rider, said she also takes the express bus into Manhattan often.

“The Throggs Neck express bus is atrocious,” Valenciano said. “The only one who made things slightly better was (Councilaman Jimmy) Vacca. He really got on it, and the bus service got better for a little while, but then went right back to the way it was.”

Valenciano said she would rather make the walk to Pelham Bay and catch the bus there.

“They’re always on time there,” she said.

MTA spokeswoman Deirdre Parker said there have been no changes in the schedule.

“We have not reduced scheduled service on this route,” Parker said. “I am looking into checking with Road Control in the area to see if they are aware of any reasons for the delays.”

Express bus service slows down

AUGUST 10, 2011 / NEWS / BRONX TIMES REPORTER

By Patrick Rocchio

Express Bus riders to Pelham Bay and Throggs Neck have noticed that their commute is taking a little bit longer these days, but the MTA says there have been no cuts in service.

According to straphangers who use the bus service as a quick commute to go to and from midtown Manhattan on the two lines, they are experiencing longer waits on the BxM7A and BxM9.

Many constituents have contacted Councilman Jimmy Vacca’s office in an effort to find out if the MTA has cut service to the two lines, and now Vacca, also the City Council Transportation Committee chairman, is investigating.

“I have gotten complaints and based on them it appears that service has declined specifically on the Pelham Bay and Throggs Neck lines, but this is by no means limited to those lines,” Vacca said. “We use to have exemplary service, but ever since the MTA took over, the fare keeps going up. People are paying more and getting less.”

Privately owned New York Bus Service ran express bus service to the city in a more efficient matter, Vacca said. Several things could be responsible for a decline in service, including fewer buses and schedules not being adhered to, Vacca said.

“I am going to hold the MTA’s feet to the fire on this one,” Vacca said. “I have already had a meeting in my office asking a representative of the MTA for an explanation.”

Rider Sandi Lusk, who takes the Pelham Bay run, said that service has gotten steadily worse over the past few months, and it is now delaying her commute home.

“Buses come late, and are often so filled that you have to wait for the next one, or sometimes the one after that,” Lusk said, specifically speaking about the commute home from Manhattan. “We pay a lot for this service and it has been really terrible lately, wasting a lot of our time.”

While waiting for a bus on East 45th Street in Manhattan, Lusk said that a line stretched down the entire block on Thursday, July 28. The first two buses zoomed right past her stop, which is only the third on the route, and were already filled, she said.

Aside from some minor changes in the morning two routes servicing the Bronx, the MTA has not made any major changes in the past 18 months, said spokesman Charles Seaton. The MTA will monitor the situation, he said.

Bronx CB10... strikes again !

From what I hear though, usage on the BxM9 is growing... Can't really blame those folks for abandoning the Bx40/42 to the (6) (if that's what's infact going on)....

As for the BxM7, there's been a push to have it run 24/7 for quite some time now.....

Throggs Neck has remained fairly stable in terms of usage, but the BxM7 has not.  They've lost almost 200,000 riders over the last 5 years, and I do look at the buses in the morning and evening.  The morning trips that I see are not very crowded, not unless those folks get off at 122nd which may be the case. I know 84th and 5th is a big stop for the Eastchester express buses in general because of the Upper East Side.

The only increase we've seen is the earlier BxM1 trip back to Riverdale on weekdays (the 06:45 trip), but that was a must because we have people that work in Riverdale or work overnight in Manhattan and need an earlier bus back to Riverdale.  That bus and the one after it usually sees pretty good crowds (at least 25 - 30 people or more).  We also got the BxM2 running until 00:30 on Sundays to Riverdale, but part of that was because they cut back the BxM1 on Sundays.

One thing I have been raising hell about is the amount of late express buses during the week to and from Riverdale.  I wrote quite a few complaints about drivers stalling too long at the terminals and the need for buses to start leaving promptly. For the last three weeks or so service has been much better during the week.  Weekends is still a work in progress on both the BxM1 and BxM2.

Back to the BxM9 though... A lot of areas of the Bronx are going through demographic shifts, including Throggs Neck.  Seems like more people who lived in Manhattan or Brooklyn are moving to the Bronx and they have more money and thus opt for the express bus.  I said a while ago that if the BxM4 could see gentrification, the line could see more riders. I think that's happening along parts of the Concourse.  That line saw an increase in usage for the first time in years.  More people in Yonkers are coming down and using the express buses too, which is also seeing people with more money that are pushed out of the city moving there.

The first BxM7 is now 4:50am, not 4:45am. They split the 5am trip into two trips.

The first BxM10 doesn't leave Manhattan until 8:20am. The 7am departure from Boston Road doesn't do early-morning Einstein Hospital workers any good because it's inbound, not outbound.

And the BxM8 never ran to City Island. The BxM7B was consolidated with the BxM7A in 2010 (before that, it ran nonstop to City Island, similar to the BxM4 Super Express trips to Woodlawn, which were also cut in 2010). The BxM7A was relabeled as the BxM8 in 2011.

1. 04:45, 04:50... Stop nitpicking.  The point is there's an earlier trip.  Jesus Christ.  Annoying.

2.  That's not the point.  There is a campus there and those people benefit from having that earlier bus.  The express bus is advertised for all people going to and from Albert Einstein, not just those coming from Manhattan, and even so, the 07:00 trip does benefit those coming from Manhattan, since that's the first trip back to the Bronx.

3. The BxM8 has been running to City Island for years now. Not sure why you're bringing up the whole history of how it became the BxM8.  Most people on this board know that unless they've been living under a rock. <_<

The MTA's not running that 7AM Sunday trip with the expectation of people using it to reach Einstein Medical Center. If intra-Bronx passengers are doing so, that's their business, but that's not the purpose of that trip.

And what I meant is that the BxM8 City Island trips weren't in danger of being cut back to PBP. The issue of City Island losing express service was resolved before the BxM8 notation came into existence. Yes you're correct, those BxM8 City Island trips have been around for as long as the BxM8 itself has been around.

-Ok, then do tell us what the purpose of the trip is for then since the BxM10's biggest stop is the Albert Einstein campus, with people coming and going at all hours. <_< Have you even used the BxM10 before to speak about the topic? I've used the BxM10 regularly for months during the week and weekends to see who gets on where and why.  The poor subway service is another reason I'm sure, but as I said, the Albert Einstein campus is the biggest stop.

-Oh please.  BxM7B or BxM8, the trips were in danger of being cut back to PBP.  Again with the nitpicking.

Residents from that part of The Bronx heading to Manhattan, and perhaps overnight workers returning from the campus, which is different from people heading to Mount Sinai who want earlier service. And yes, I've used it before.

And the BxM7B would've just been straight-up eliminated otherwise. It wouldn't have been cut back to PBP because it didn't even stop at PBP.
