Yeah it may be a problem, especially for those people that are used to driving to Gannon, but if people get used to the Watchogue routing I think that route will be popular as well. The X12 especially in the morning has continued to grow and they've been adding service and expanding the span a bit too.

I'm not denying that the Watchogue service will catch on. At the end of the day, if it warrants those service levels that's fine. But the whole SIM4C corridor is being severely screwed over either way. The X17 runs twice as frequently as the SIM4C and doesn't serve Gannon, and yet buses still get filled up.

don't forget the southern most part of the 17c is covered at least for downtown service by the 2.

Righy, but the X17 doesn't really see too much of its ridership from Arden Heights  (also the SIM2 doesn't run past 8:15pm and that's when service is every 30 minutes on the SIM4C)

Talking about the SIM4C, here's it's northbound weekday schedule from the ETC:

04:00a 04:02a 04:20a 04:22a 04:40a 04:42a 05:00a 05:02a 09:20a 09:22a 09:40a 09:42a 10:00a 10:02a 10:20a 10:22a 11:00a 11:02a 11:20a 11:22a 12:00p 12:02p 12:20p 12:22p 01:00p 01:02p 01:30p 01:32p 02:00p 02:02p 02:30p 02:32p 03:00p 03:02p 03:30p 03:32p 04:00p 04:02p 04:30p 04:32p 05:00p 05:02p 05:30p 05:32p 06:00p 06:02p 06:30p 06:32p 07:00p 07:02p

What I don't get is how some buses have a 2 minute gap and then there's not another bus for around 20-40 minutes. Wouldnt it make more sence to have buses run on an uniform 10-20 minute headway insted of one bus leaving 2 mintues after the last one and then a 18-38 minute gap untill the next one?

That schedule isn't right, according to GTFS data it only runs every 20 minutes.

I got my data from rideschedules.com

For some reason it only shows that at the ETC stop. But at the other stops it has 20-40 minute headways.

That's a complete misprint in the schedule. From 4 till 5am, it's a 20 min headway. Then the  515, 530, 545, 600, 613, etc.

I noticed, rideschedules.com shows that only at the ETC stop for some reason.🤔

Makes more sense, but I'm not liking that 1 hour gap from 10:20 AM-11:20 AM and that 40 minute gap from 11:20 AM - 12:00 PM.

Also which website did you get your data from?

The actual GTFS data straight from the MTA.

I got access to all the schedules for all the new SIM routes at any stop actually, if you need to know something let me know and I should find it.

Why do you keep arguing over the same schedules that conflict the X Vs the SIM games that the MTA will start playing in less than three weeks from now? I’ve already have seen the SIM games being prepared for it but from the true islanders > Express bus fans 😂😂😂. I do think when the MTA starts playing the SIM games, I will like to see first hand on how the ridership is gonna be under three terms:

1. Crowds

2. Traffic

3. How many buses will be assigned.

With the exception of SIM games number 1, the weekday peak mornings are gonna be a real testy one. @checkmatechamp13, will sups/dispatchers be standing at certain time points?

The X17C runs at 4:30 on weekdays, they just increased the time span by 30 minutes in the AM.

The first bus is at 4:05am from Arden Heights (4:20am from the ETC). They started it earlier because it will be making extra stops on Gannon Avenue, so they want to give people an option to still get into Manhattan around the same time.

I emailed them, and they said that they will have resources out there to make changes on the fly, so presumably there will be a lot of dispatchers out there.

For me personally, I travel during rush hour (at least for work. If/when I go back to school for my masters, it might be evening classes, so that would be a different story), so the SIM4 is going to be exactly the X17A and the SIM8 is going to be very similar to the X17J, so other than delays from passengers being confused (i.e. "Does this bus go to ____?) I can't picture too many issues. Maybe down the line, I'll check out the SIM32/33 (more for fanning purposes. Even though the other routes go to my neighborhood, I always consider the present-day X17 my main line)

Gotcha. I’ll be out there during the marriage week (9/15-9/25/18)

I'm currently on the X10 and the B/O is having an convo with a lady about the New Express Bus system.

He basically said that he's going to do local after the MTA puts this new express bus system up (he doesn't like it). They also talked about how the North Shore gets cared about the least when it comes to the redesign, out of all of the 3 places throughout the Island with the information centers of the new bus system, None are on the north shore. He's also upset of how they put all of the Midtown routes on 5th Ave and put a lot of routes on Water Street. Water Street can have very bad traffic at some times. He then said that his depot (Meredith) didn't even receive the schedules for the new routes. He also stated that Staten Island doesn't complain alot when they cut service. When they started cutting the X27/28/37/38 routes, the communities demanded old service to be restored. Staten Islanders just strugg it off and drive to the other express buses. (He did say that a lady filed a complaint for a bus being ONE minute hot. Can't complain about service cuts but complain if the bus comes one minute early.)

Any thoughts?

Of course. It's been like this for years.   I used to chat with family members about how the Mid Island and South Shore made sure that they had those X1 express buses running like water, but we on the North Shore, it was to hell with our express bus service.  I saw the writing on the wall when they axed the X13 and X16, then changed the X14 and spoke about it at CSI in front of the board members to a standing applause. I was quite angry.   The North Shore has no real elected officials fighting for them and that's the problem. Debi Rose and Matthew Titone are useless.  When we circulated a petition demanding that the X16 be restored, Debi Rose went to the (MTA) begging them. We needed someone to be firm for us, not go begging them.

When Vito Fossella was around, he fought for all of Staten Island and helped get us the HOV lanes over the Verrazzano and into Brooklyn and he kept us abreast via e-mail. Once he was out of office, all of that changed. I voted for Michael Grimm and he really let me down.  I voted for him because Michael McMahon who lived on the North Shore wasn't doing much better and given that he lived near me, I really couldn't stand the guy.  He did nothing to improve transportation, especially on the North Shore in terms of express bus service, and I was determined to see him get the boot.

Back to Grimm...  I contacted his office about express bus service and he gives me a response about routes like the X22. I was FURIOUS.  I give you my vote and you turn around and cater to the damn South Shore.  The hell with that. Prior to the re-design, all of the new express bus service was primarily going towards the South Shore and Mid Island.

There's been this long going stigma that the Mid Island and South Shore have the money and political clout so they get everything.  Meanwhile the well to do neighborhoods on the North Shore... We can just take the ferry.  I think a lot of people that live near Forest Avenue got the hell out as well.  There was a lady who I used to take the express bus with. She and I would often times go down to Hylan Blvd for express bus service because as I told her, that's where all of the service is going, so that's where we're going.

There is a 4th information center in Mariners Harbor (Forest & Union). They were there this past Friday and Monday and will be there this upcoming Friday
