Sex Toys ads to be allowed on NYC Subway trains

Recommended Posts

So they banned alcohol ads because "it would encourage teen drinking", but they are allowing sex toy ads.

Do these people understand that there are children riding the subway?

I think that it's one thing for a museum since it has some value versus some random ads of sex toys. But, if MoSex being allowed means this is allowed as well, then get rid of the MoSex ads. The subway is not a place for obscene advertisements given it is a public service used by families. It's one thing for a place like a strip club as that is well-designated, but parents should not have to get on the subway and shield their kids' eyes every time they see obscene dildo and vibrator ads.

When kids see something, it creates monkey-see-monkey-do situations.

Did you just try to equate alcohol and dildos? I'm confident that children aren't gonna know what any of it is.

Teenagers? They don't need sex toy ads to have sex.

So stop it.

I'm not arguing right or wrong, moral or immoral, but let me say this.....

I'm inclined to believe that, at most, kids nowadays'll get a laugh out of seeing a sex toy ad on the train - and not that nervous/hesitant/inquisitive type of laugh either.... Have you sat down & listened to how some of these kids talk about sex on the buses/trains, or otherwise out in public? I have, and it's to the point where I'm not even awe-struck anymore.... Quite sure having to hear that type of talk from their own (adult) family members didn't help matters any..... FWIW, when you have grown women admitting that "hoes are winning out here", that to me, speaks for itself.... I mean, these kids are not only having sex nowadays, but you have as many of em that are seasoned vets well before they hit college.... It is what it is.....

With each passing generation, the subject of sex (here in the states anyway) has gotten less taboo & more, blasé....

As for alcohol ads vs. sex toy ads... Well I guess you can point out the hypocrisy for wanting to allow one over the other, but the way I see it, there's more public backlash for encouraging teen drinking over that of encouraging teen sex.... Could be a matter of picking/choosing their battles, who knows.....

A teacher of mine once summed up this issue perfectly.

There are three things humanity needs on a basic level:

Sleep

Food

Sex

It also happens that these three things are things we are absolute sh*t at talking about. While I can understand not wanting alcohol ads on the subway (it is, after all, a drug, no matter how responsibly you use it), shielding children from their biology is simply perpetuating our society's verbal constipation surrounding sex and love -- a condition more dangerous to children who need guidance about their sexualities than an alcohol ad.

The right wing says this is a slippery slope to legalizing pedophilia and bestiality. I haven’t got any knowledge to make an informed opinion on that opinion. But one wonders if there are any societal side effects of liberalizing sex.

The Netherlands seem to be doing okay with it.

God forbid children know what sex is.

Alcohol is associated with drunk driving, death, overdose, etc. Sex toys are associated with...not much

Pregnancy, STIs, injury… death by sex toys is a thing.

Turkey basters?

This thread really has gone downhill...

I never thought a Transit thread would go so in depth about erotic behavior, and dildos, and people having orgies.

Turkey basters are supposedly how gold diggers get pregnant by rich men who use but don’t flush condoms.

You never watched The Game?

Sex toys are catalysts like alcohol, IMO. Think about the association between alcohol and all of the innumerable ways one can screw up while intoxicated. Alcohol does not directly cause car accidents; the person has to get behind the wheel and drive first. Similarly, sex toys do not cause pregnancy nor STIs, but their use may involve activities that lead up to it. A sex toy may also transmit infected bodily fluids. There are plenty of possibilities for misuse that could lead to:

Other things that lead to pregnancy:

Shots

Food

Porn

HBO

Talking

Holding hands

Bikinis

Smiling

The wind blowing

Insomnia

Holding Doors

Looking at people

Boredom

Ad infinitum...

Just say "my bad, I messed this one up", @CenSin

Actually, I gave it a lot of thought before posting that initial post. And I waited for the inevitable responses before posting the explanation. The stuff you listed are a few degrees away from the act that causes pregnancy, but sex toys are most definitely used in situations that are just a a few humps away from impregnation.

Anything mentioned thus far has been tame to me......

FWIW, considering the fact that hobbyists are perceived to be lame ole nerds that don't "get none", it should be a revelation that this is even a topic of discussion that's as in-depth as you believe it to be.... Lol.....
