Museum of sex ads will be removed

This is a simple case of advertising gone bad and this was spoken about at length on this very forum and now (MTA) wants to remove.

I feel that there are better ads than to use the Museum of Sex.  Last I checked, I thought (MTA) had strict rules when it comes to advertising on their buses

(MTA) goes back to putting VIM ads for the interim.  If the ad was a rear ad or rear wrap on the RTS and NG's than I say things would be a bit different.  However, what's done is done. Good thing to take down the ads for safety of drivers and patrons who utilize (MTA) services.

Isn't the mta still in a battle with that crazy broad Geller?

Pamela Geller lost that case in 2016, but she has a similar lawsuit in the 9th Circuit and is hoping that the 9th splits with the 1st and 2nd (NYC is in the 2nd Circuit).

As for the Museum of Sex ads, they have run back-of-the-bus ads before, when they were showing the Funland exhibit in 2014, but that wasn't plain type on a black background. They have also run ads in the subway, but they have not been problematic either. This is the first time it has been (the subway ads are not part of the controversy)

I think they were better off running back of the bus ads or rear wrap ads. Hopefully most of those ads are gone by this weekend or early next week.

They should be gone forever!!! No one wants to see ads for a sex museum. Instead of that bad idea, there should be front-of-the-bus ads about CUNY colleges, like the interior ads on the trains about CUNY.

Agreed, I didn’t particularly care about these “Museum of Sex” ads in the first place. They should try to keep the ads to clothing, movies, school info and other appropriate content. I noticed that the “Museum of Sex” tries so hard to promote it’s stuff so I’m assuming that their museum doesn’t do too well.

And the news even says that the ads are to blame for female drivers being harassed. What ever happened ton protecting the workers from harassment?

The Brooklyn Division already have CUNY ads for Kingsborough Community College which got rolled out the same week those Museum of sex ads roll out just about 2 weeks ago.

I get what your saying and I agree with you. However, the thought process with putting the ads in front of buses was definitely a bad idea.

Y'all talk about "appropriate" ads when the MTA is scrounging in couch cushions because nobody wants 100% fare funding or more taxes and tolls.

Beggars can't be choosers. I can't remember the last time I saw a bus that had all the interior ads fitted out and current.

I don’t see what the big deal is and it’s the museums 1 amendedment right to advertise on public buses. I thought they were funny and conversation starters and as someone who has been to the museum with friends as well as my ex-wife, it’s a part of life. I don’t see how it’s offensive. Sure there are the immature people out there that take it to a different level, and there are some who are just uncomfortable around the subject of sex altogether and that sounds like the issue at hand here.

Either way, they have already started removing them off lots of Grand, Flatbush and ENY buses.

They were just black and white ads that say "MUSEUM OF SEX".

Folks mad about words on buses but aren't going after T&LC for strip club ads and Thinx lingerie ads were up for a long while.

And now you got that startup advertising ED drugs...

I hate these blurred lines.

All in the business of the New York City Transit Authority in the State of New York (NYCT) = Blurred lines.

So bad you can have beer and liquor ads on subways and not on buses. SMDH. At least this time of year you see the corona, Budweiser, Bud lite beer ads on the trains.

I think everything thinks the museum of sex is a pornographic museum and being how I've been it isn't even like that. Its quite boring actually.

It is a case study of how marketing can overpromise and production underdelivers.

As was already pointed out, the Museum of Sex itself isn't what some people tend to think that it is..... I was perusing a thread on here about a week or so ago that had mentioned them being on the buses, before I literally saw them on any of the buses... Honestly, the first bus I actually saw the ad on, I started snickering.... Then they ended up becoming more widespread on the buses, to the point I started shrugging - Considering (what I deem) the fake outrage surrounding the ads being on the buses, after the fact..... Much ado about much of nothing... And then yesterday I'm reading about female drivers being increasingly harrassed & it being this safety concern, yada yada yada.....

All this uproar about a freakin ad with the word Sex on it, when the irony likely is, the ones doing the most complaining are the ones w/ the most sexual-based skeletons in their damn closets....

I got a good laugh out of those “Museum of Sex” ads. I mean sure, with #MeToo and all the political correctness out there in general it’s not the best of times to promote a sex museum on a government owned vehicle, but the ad in and of itself was not an offensive thing to look at.

Also, the uptick of (MTA) employees being harassed goes way beyond a sex museum ad, and I hope that this gets addressed also.

Most of the Brooklyn Division have the Museum of sex ads removed with a few sprinkled around.

While we’re on the subject on ads. What I don’t get is that when I see an ad on a Brooklyn Division bus it only has the ad version and not the roof version. However, when the same similar ad pops up on a Manhattan Division bus. That ad has the roof variant.

I’ve noticed that Brooklyn Division buses rarely get roof ads but when they do have the roof ads all the depots tend to have them.  My only guess is that Manhattan is more of a tourisy area than Brooklyn.

This has to be the only time in recent memory Quill buses had no front ads. People should get their photos while they can. That depot always has ads up. Just about Manhattan division bus except for MCH was stripped as of yesterday. Mixed boat in Brooklyn, a few hangers on at Grand. MTAB it's a mess (as always).

The beer & Liqour ads have been on the TA Buses & subway cars since the 1970s. They used to advertise cigarettes in both English & Spanish on all TA vehicles. The cig ads lasted until the 1980s

Cigarette ads were banned from city buses since 1992. Even without that to consider, the Master Settlement Agreement would have effectively banned those ads today. Alcohol ads were banned from city buses a few years ago.
