GojiMet86 Posted August 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2018 I finally got a chance to ride the R179 some seven/eight months after their introduction, with #3137 being the first one I rode. Some things I noted while riding the line: - A lot of riders get off at Broadway Junction from points east. - Not sure what the point is in running the Jamaica trains express between Marcy and Myrtle if they are going to be held at Myrtle for the to cross. It takes like two minutes for the interlocking to switch, anyway. Is it to keep Hewes/Lorimer/Flushing passengers from crowding unto the ? - It seems that the 6 PM and onwards Jamaica-bound trains get crowded in Manhattan (a lot from Canal) because of 10 minute headways. I saw three such trains leave people on the platform at Bowery. Maybe the MTA should look into having 6-8-minute headways for a while longer. S78 via Hylan Posted August 4, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2018 As for Myrtle Av, I think it’s based on which trains are scheduled to leave first. I can confirm this as there have been times when I’ve taken a or home, we’d come into Myrtle with an already on the local track, and my train would still leave before that . I do agree that the should run more frequently until at least 7:00pm. Last, but not least, superb photos!
Jsunflyguy Posted August 4, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2018 The should be the Myrtle Express East/South bound, it would remove a conflict at Myrtle.

It would only remove one conflict; it would still wind up crossing WB / trains, which would wind up delaying everything anyway. If you want to do something about the mess at Myrtle, the easiest way would probably be to build a pair of ramps up between Ellery St and Lewis Av between the local and express tracks, then turn them onto the old Myrtle Av El structure over the Social Security building there and recommission the upper level of Myrtle Av to serve the . You could probably fit it if you got rid of the walkways on the tracks and squashed everything together. It would be expensive but could possibly be done without eminent domain.
