I'm new to this forum--just wanted to say hello to everyone who's part of this thread and a big thanks to everyone who's given feedback on this entire process.

I got the letter to go in on Sat, 11/2/18, as well.

But--after reading the many threads here and for the previous exams for this position, I still cannot understand what the SPA entails other than what's written in the letter.  Is it more of an interview?  Or a series of tests administered in a group?

@jake3178 I read you took the SPA--could you please share more details?  Much appreciated.

Hey guys, just to make this clear to everyone, the SPA test is like an OSHA test but you have to answer the questions verbally. You are right that its also tests your communication ability at the same time, so make sure that you give a clear and direct answer for each questions.

Any sample questions of what they will be asking?

SPA is Safety Proficiency Assessment..they will show you pictures of certain situations and you just have to state what isn’t safe about the picture. thats what I remember from years ago. its not difficult lol

Any idea after the spa test what's the length of hiring after?

Not really sure because my hiring was different. I did SPA and then said no and put my name back on the list. You still have to do all the paperwork and medical. If I had to take a guess, I would say your class would start end of December or early January.

It's very simple. Instructor shows you 10 pictures and wants you to answer a safety related question about the scenario in each picture.

My one tip is to make sure to give only one answer, dont get nervous and start listing 2+ possible answers.. decide on a single most important fact and put it in a complete sentence.

Whole thing is over in 5-10 min.

Anyone know if points on your license affects if you get hired?  Or am I good once I receive the SPA letter?

Not sure about this position but with Bus Operator position you can't have more then 4 points within a 3 year Period.

I would say take a point reduction class if you have 4 points or more on your DL.

Hey guys, who ever goes in for the SAP test can you keep us in the loop and let us know what to look out for..would appreciate it

I'm hoping after the SAP they start to hire ..I'm hoping to be a helper as a light maintenance or elevator off this test

I think with Elevators & Escalators there are no helpers. Pretty sure you have to come off the street as a E&E Maintainer and then next title is E&E Specialist. If I had to guess, I would say you’re gonna go to Signals or Cable Section.

There are E&E helpers. One of my boys is one. Also they have E&E listed as a division we can be placed in on the exam form so I don’t think there is no reason why they wouldn’t place one of us or whoever as a helper in that division.

According to previous threads of electrical helpers after the SAP is the pre-employment processing ( drug , medical test, background check and what not ) then after they realize u are clear is final employement processing and you get sworn in , get a start date , etc. I think we will honestly get in by ending of December/beginning of jan the LATEST. But with the way they contacted us back fast for SPA. I’m sure everything will go fast n we could possibly be in December.

You’re right. I just looked at an exam notice. It all depends who needs what. The majority of the last 3 classes have come to Cable Section. A handful went to Signals and some went to Test Section. In the last several months a bunch of helpers from Test got bumped out to Cable. Somebody at 180 knows the next start date, just a matter of waiting or asking the right person.

What's cable section and test section?

I see they also have drainage and ventilation....telephone etc

I’m in Cable Section which is a part of Power. We run cables like control, telephone, battery, fiber and the cable that supplies the 3rd rail. Test section I’m not sure what exactly they do but I know they Test different shit. And ventilation or drainage..no idea lol
