There will have to be three and four car sets in this order to accommodate the 42nd st  (S)

No, but 2 tracks for 2 5 car links. The (S) 42nd St Shuttle, currently suspended at this time, is being renovated with 2 track lines. That won’t get done until at least 2025 the latest.

That's being reconfigured for 6-car trains.

The R62s will be long gone by the time CBTC is completed

Not all of the R142As got converted to R188s. Just 7211-7590 with cars 6-10 having a “C” car installed between “9” & “10” cars. 7591-7670 went to the (4) to merge with 7671-7810. When they install the CBTC & ATO equipment for the R142As, you can substitute 2 R62As and put them on CBTC ready tracks, for clearance testing. R142s 1101-1250 & 6301-7180 will also get CBTC & ATO equipment installed very soon. With CBTC, T/Os must follow the rules of the road. I saw a large difference between old signaling and CBTC signaling: when trains passes an old signal, the lights turn from red to yellow to stale green. On CBTC, the signals stay red. Signals will flash green lights 5 minutes before a train arrives. Signal lights for CBTC tracking are very far ——— say about 2 to three stations apart or near a cross track signal.

R188 cars could fit in these. (7216-7217-7218-7219-7899-7220)

Those are specifically geared toward (7) service. There's no need to spread those thin, especially since the number of 6-car R188 sets far outstrips the number needed for the shuttle.

No kidding, only adding to the point in reference to the R262s replacing the R62s BEFORE CBTC is installed and ready.... That's what he's saying.

Especially with the R262 having a small amount of 6-car trains, in base order, to cover the shuttle. I feel FLX here is forgetting the actually cars in discussion....

I think the R262s should be Australian-built. Two common railcar manufacturers in Australia are UGL (United Group Limited) Rail, whose default EMU/DMU manufacturing plant is in Broadmeadow, New South Wales; and Downer Rail, whose default EMU manufacturing plant is in Cardiff, New South Wales. Here are 2 more of my ideas:

  • Toshiba propulsion system with 2-level SiC-MOSFET–VVVF inverters and permanent magnet synchronous motors, like that of the Tokyo Metro 2000 series (this would be the first propulsion on the New York City Subway supplied by a Japanese company)
  • Mostly stainless steel construction except for ends and rear bonnets (fibreglass) and doors (aluminium)

Outta the realm of possibilities, I see this being the config once the 262s come in.

(1): 142/A

(2): 262

(3): 142/A

(4): 188/262

(5): 262

(6): 188/142/A

(7): 188/262

42nd Street (S): Whatever they can put on it. I suppose 188s.

The R188s (including the converted R142As) are meant for Flushing service. The (7) is in no position to need R262s. In addition, the base order for the R262s consists of 504 cars, and when considering that the R188s are sufficient for their purpose, the only possibility is that some R262s are for the shuttle.

(7) trains having R262 wouldn't be possible since they have the R188s in their disposal. And the 42nd Street (S) Probably will be either having either R262s (Or some other fleet from the IRT) on Westchester or Livonia Yard.

The (4) wouldn't be having R188s from the (7) it doesn't makes sense. It's makes more sense if they either have their R142/A's upgraded for Eastern's/Lexington's or Jerome's CBTC. If R262s are gonna be assigned there for reliability or extra service and that's a go-go.

the (2)(5) situation. It's kinda possible for them to have R262s to push out their R142s for either

1. If some becomes LED either be transferred to the 6 along with some assigned R262s.

2. or them being transferred to the (1)(3) to probably kick out some R62/A's

the (6) wouldn't be getting any R142A's. Slightly because of the (4) still keeping them. transferred somewhere else. Maybe they'll be transferred to the (6) but its highly unlikely. And remember that the R188s aren't going to any IRT lines other than the (7) only.

Also (1) and (3) situation. If Jerome or E 180th/Unionport wants to send some R142/A's on those lines since they're gonna be getting some of the R262 order then alright.

Its highly likely that they'll be assigned R262's either way.

P.S: Just not to start something about R262s Assigned to each fleet. It's my way of how it can work out

(Also the (7) won't be getting any assigned R262s due to them being only on that line for Flushing's CBTC so don't count any left R142A's to be R188's the R188's are only equipped with only Flushings CBTC Signaling. If R142/A's are being upgraded they won't be changed into any other R(Number) type stuff. Just to keep notice.)

A more probable assignment for the A Division could be:

(1) - 430 R142s (lets say 6301-6730)

(2) - R262 (for interchange with the (5))

(3) - 220 R142As (7591-7810) + 100 R142s (7081-7180)

(4) - R262s

(5) - R262 (for interchange with the (2))

(6) - 500 R142s (lets say 6731-7080, 1101-1250)

42 St (S) - 30 R262s (or 24 R262s, reducing spare factor by one six-car train)

(7) - As-is with R188s

Here's what I think the assignments are going to be:

(1) - R142

(2) - R262

(3) - R142

(4) - R262 + Leftover R142/A's

(5) - R262

(6) - R142/A

(7) - Stays with the R188's (cuz duh)

(S) - R262

I think the R262's are going to the Express Lines, since they are the ones that really need the extra capacity (and the newest stock). If this does happen, then the Locals would probably get the R142/A's in return.

This literally makes the most logical sense and i don't even be on this side of the forums. The (6) doesn't need R262s, it just needs an NTT for CBTC purposes. The (2) and (5) will share fleets, are two of the longest and heaviest lines so that's obvious, and the (4)(5) are priority. The (S) is maintaining the new 6-car formation, and the R142/As will be distributed to the (1)(3)(6) and (4) as needed.

You do realize there aren't a lot of R142A's left right?
