That's an interesting layout to have an elevator and a staircase next to each other. I wonder how many more stations can accommodate this type of layout?

I think it's simply because there's literally no room to put it anywhere else... there's barely any space to walk there on 4 Av as is.

The J and Z elevator access at Chambers Street is now up and running.

Now if they can show the rest of the station.

I love how there's just a clean zone surrounding the elevator. The new elevators also have snazzier housing.

I give it like a week.

The MTA is planning on adding new elevators at:

Westchester Square (6)

Queensboro Plaza (7)(N)(W)

181st Street (A)

Court Square (G)

Woodhaven Boulevard (J)

8th Avenue (N)

Queensboro is a good spot. About time as those stations over there by LIC in general are hell to pay climbing those.

The project to add a bus line to LGA Airport is calling for elevators to be installed at Ditmars Boulevard.

In addition to adding the bus routes, the plan also calls for adding elevators to the Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard stop, which currently has none. The station is not on the MTA’s list of stations due for an upgrade in its current capital plan. Travelers toting luggage at the station would benefit from an elevator to the street to catch the bus.

Lmao it’ll take 3 years to upgrade the Q70 and 5 years to build its lane, that’s ridiculous, at least it’s enough time for the MTA to include elevators at ditmars blvd in its capital program, probably on the 2025-2029 capital program

Revisiting this, nice to see that all of these stations are currently in progress for getting ADA Accessibility.

Oh that shit will be a disaster in NYC due to safety regulations. Now that we scrapped them thanks to Cuomo & DeBlasio with their extensions Adams and Hochul now we are going to see more road accidents near subway stations and increased fares/tolls

Well let's see how many can be accessible, 86th Street (R) Street level elevator has to be relocated to avoid bottlenecks especially the fact that the B1 uses 60 footers and has to make sharp curves on narrow streets.

59th Street (N)(R), 7th Avenue (F)(G), & Greenpoint Avenue stations in Brooklyn are obviously a no go, Despite the MTA not giving two flying f**ks about the higher probability of road accidents near the area, Including safety risks to drivers and pedestrians even though this doesn't matter according to them. Is still prohibited under the TA's safety standards. Seems like they don't care despite the elevators needing to be eliminated for the safety of the public.

I don't think it's supposed to. It reeks of the (stereo)typical NIMBYism, particularly with the thinly-veiled pro-car bent.
