Gotham Bus Co. 648 #1 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) What is the purpose of having alternate midday PW trains skip Murray Hill and Auburndale and alternate trains skip Broadway and Plandome? It can't possibly be to save time, because the little bit of time saved by bypassing is lost holding at other stations while the crew announces the bypass. Edited March 11, 2019 by Gotham Bus Co. bobtehpanda 5,808 #2 Posted March 12, 2019 The LIRR doing pointless things because that's the way they've always done it. More at 11. It's probably a mix of legacy railroad operations and bean counters trying to argue that skipping stops saves money. IIRC, both Alon Levy (Pedestrian Observations) and Patrick O'Hara (LIRR Today) have concluded that between the unreliability and the padding that skip-stop requires, the LIRR would probably save time by forcing all "locals" to go all-stops all the time.
