Switching jobs within the MTA?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I accepted a job with the LIRR because another position I really wanted took to long to hear back.  Now almost a year later, I get a call for a "probable employment" screening for the MTA in NYC job I really wanted.

Can I switch jobs if I'm still new at my job with the LIRR (on probation for 1 year)?  Will either agencies allow it?

Yes you can, but you will have to Resign with the LIRR. Make sure you do your due diligence with the NYCT title before you give up what you have.

Even though they are both MTA jobs, it’s like quitting Pathmark to work a Key Food. Everything will start over when you go to NYCT and you won’t be paying into Railroad Retirement anymore.
