Bronx Redesign Draft Released

They did it in Queens with the Q19A and Q19B. They are now Q69 and Q49.😆

That was only because the Q19A and Q19B had almost nothing in common with the main Q19 route whereas for the Bx4 and Bx4A, despite the shortened route, both the 4 and 4A share a significant stretch of route between Southern Blvd (where the 4A will now terminate) and Parkchester (where the 4 and 4A split).

It could still be renamed tho. Look at the Q52/Q53.

True, but they didn’t have it in the draft plan. Maybe they could do a renaming in the final plan. I won’t be surprised if they still retain the Bx4A designation.

Speaking of “final plan” when will that come out?

IIRC, sometime in September. Even then, things are likely to change because additional feedback is required (and with enough force, requests/concerns could be addressed).

Who knows, maybe the redesign won't even happen once the (MTA) is "blown up" and the "division heads" are all stripped of power. cuomo-post.jpg?w=50&h=50&crop=1

I'm pretty sure these politicians would be happy if there was no public transit in NYC. Everyone just drives.

Upstate politicians have said as much. ("The MTA is useless because my district has no subways." Meanwhile, that district has a bus factory.)

The MTA being a state concern is a mistake.

Really they should devolve it to the counties and cities and let them hash it out themselves. MTA taxes aren't statewide anyways.

You mean do it like EVERY OTHER TRANSIT AGENCY that isn’t in Boston, NJ, or DC?

Heresy.

.... and too bad (MTA) metro north Hudson line doesn’t enter Albany, New York.

Well, this redesign of the Bronx buses. May work in some areas, but they missed one route that needs a lot of help! That's the Bx19, the slowest and one of the longest route in the Bronx. This route is in  need of a  serious overhaul.

The Bx19 is getting changes. They are removing redundant stops. The features that would help improve performance for the Bx19 are:

-Bus lanes on 149th St throughout and Southern Blvd particularly around East 163rd and Westchester Avenue.

-All door boarding

-Off board payment

-OMNY (off board tap for most and inside tap for people running in last minute)

-Traffic signal priority.

The route is already pretty straight.

Some of the things you mention are already in the works. Instead of complaining, take the time to read the Better Buses Action Plan. It describes in detail a number of corridors that are being worked on by the DOT and the City, and include things like bus lanes, Transit Signal Priority and so on.  OMNY should be on all buses Citywide by sometime in 2020. Until then people will have to be patient and wait.  What is concerning isn't what they're doing, but rather what isn't being done, and how long some of these things have been in the works.

Why are they doing it like SBS?

No one said they were. What was said was what is needed, and some of those things will be implemented for all lines, SBS or not.
