Really speaking, they should just double end the s and not schedule some endless layover so you can get away sans fumigation, but the chances of that... Wouldn't they be required to state the change in service here?
subway4832 Posted July 19, 2019 Share #27 Posted July 19, 2019 At least with the 2 being local (hopefully) the whole Times Square fumigation fiasco is gone. Its really annoying having to sit behind a 3 for 10 minutes because someone refuses to detrain. Realistically they should have those 3's drop out at 34th Street and just double end the move into the spur if possible.

With service ending at Times Square an hour earlier, wouldn't that bottle up service, screwing things up more? They already do this now from 11:47pm (first shuttle) to 12:17am (last express). They will just be doing this a bit longer now. Edited July 19, 2019 by GreatOne2k

Certainly not. Why would the turn at Chambers? In theory, if you're running the local (technically there's still overlap, but that could be done away with), you could just do the to 14th with a wrong-rail switchover as happened on weekends for years. The only bottleneck there would be with northbound express service (not that frequent anyway), but if the is local and the timing is right, it wouldn't be too complicated. to 14th would be infinitely, infinitely more useful than 42nd when you consider the and connection possibilities.

I agree that the on late nights should operate to 14 st or even south ferry instead of times square....you also provide connections to penn station 34st and the path train at 14st
subway4832 Posted July 21, 2019 Share #31 Posted July 21, 2019 14th is a good place to do it, however you can't terminate there because thats where the last few 's of the night are stored. 34th is definitely the best option, plus its out of the way of the as well. Eliminates the whole fumigating fiasco at Times Square.
bwwnyc123 Posted July 21, 2019 Share #32 Posted July 21, 2019 They could also have the operate Express between 34 St and Chambers St. Then Local between 42 St and 96 St until after 11:30pm and then start making all Local stops.

I think the setup would need to be reversed: express 96 St to Times Sq, local 34 St to Chambers St

That's why the being express between 96 and Times Sq is better.
