R127/R134 Refuse Cars to be replaced in the 2020-2024 MTA Capital Program

Recommended Posts

Surprised that they're not going to last as long as the older R62s. Surely the life of a garbage train must be really lightweight compared to revenue service rolling stock?

I'd assume that for the trash boxmotors they have to deal with more abuse and uncoupling - R62s stay in sets, while R127/R134 units decouple.

This brings about the (honestly funny) possibility of R33 trash motors outlasting dedicated trash motors.

But what's the point? Soon the R62 and R62A will retire so use those instead of building new R127's.

The R62s and R62A’s are still in revenue service. They are not to retire for at least another 10 years.

They said they'd replace EP units and Flat Cars at the same time - not getting rid of trash trains.

I think that the R62s will replace some trash units (Namely C Div R33s) but they'll be aging, too, and won't be fully phased out for decades.

Am I misreading this? This seems to suggest the R127/R134s remain in service, while new flat cars replace the old flat cars–and that part of the problem is maintaining compatibility with the existing 127s/134s.

Look at "What Is Being Done"- the garbage flat procurement is being delayed until new EP units can be bought

Is there any evidence which Capital Plan the EP units will be included under?
