N6 Limited Posted August 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2019 Kind of late but: https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/ny-mta-lirr-atlantic-ticket-program-20190624-sm6w5blgyvcdpccogc5x7alavq-story.html Quote ....LIRR President Phil Eng said popularity of the program has pushed riders out of Penn Station and into Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal — the two stops are a similar distance by subway to lower Manhattan. [More New York] Warden being replaced at Manhattan federal jail where Jeffrey Epstein died, 2 staffers put on leave » Roughly 1.3 million trips have been taken with the cheap tickets since they were launched last year — 11% of those riders previously commuted into Penn, according to MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan. Another 30% of those riders previously used subways and buses, but chose the LIRR for its speed. Donovan said the program costs the MTA between $1 million and $2 million a year, but Eng said it was money well spent. “We are seeing some promising results from Atlantic Ticket,” said Eng. “We hope this continues to support our common goal of providing more public mass transit options and giving our customers a better commute.”
Lex Posted August 13, 2019 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2019 From what I've seen thus far, Eng seems like he actually cares (much like Byford).
NY1635 Posted August 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2019 (edited) I admit that I saved a lot of money and time intercepting the LIRR at either Queens Village or Jamaica from the NICE bus to get into Atlantic Terminal, then transferring the trains at Barclays Center for a ride in and out of Manhattan. bobtehpanda Posted August 14, 2019 Share #4 Posted August 14, 2019 They need to advertise this better. Take up prominent billboard/ad space at Jamaica Center and Sutphin/Archer. Line the Van Wyck if you have to. And the GCP (though I don't remember if there are billboards on it)
QM1to6Ave Posted August 15, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 15, 2019 Wasn't there another article that said tons more people bought regular tickets to the Atlantic Ticket stations, but the MVMs didn't tell them to buy the Atlantic Ticket to save money?

They are overcharging... Yes and no. Atlantic Tickets (Like City Ticket) have to be used the same day, or you can buy a weekly which are set from Saturday to Friday every week. So maybe some buy regular tickets for future rides.

RtrainBlues Posted September 28, 2019 Share #9 Posted September 28, 2019 They don't seem to want lots of people to buy the $5.00 Atlantic tickets at Atlantic Terminal due to the 3 (possibly 4) vending machines I've seen at that super-busy station. Same at Jamaica - very limited ticket vending machines when you're on the mezzanine level. If they're going to have such limited ticket vending machines, they should allow customers to buy the $5.00 Atlantic tickets on their phones.
