NJ Transit GP40PH-2 Locomotives 4100-4112 The orginal 12 Ex CNJ

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was wondering does anyone know why these locomotives are so hard to photograph? The only way for me to photograph them is to go up to Hoboken.

Any Ideas?

Eric

Those locomotives serve on the western & northern branches of NJ Transit. The Pascack Valley line definitely uses some of them. Also the Montclair-Boonton line uses them too.

Another place to catch them for sure is at the Secaucus Junction.

Hi, Eric.

The former CNJ units have a maximum authorized speed with train of 80 MPH. Other NJT road power is authorized for 100 or 102 MPH with train depending upon specific unit class. This restriction makes them more suitable for operation on the Hoboken Division versus the higher speeds desirable in Newark Division service, most notably on North Jersey Coast Line trains which, of course, utilize the Northeast Corridor for an appreciable distance.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Earle
